I booked a luxury room in this hotel for the first night of my honeymoon and have to say it is a beautiful hotel and definitely 5 star for quality of room and finishes but this hotel is lucky to get a 1 star rating for customer service and experience. The only way they could have done less is by forgetting my reservation all together. As an afterthought they gave us 3 chocolates perhaps to make up for things but seriously....if you want 5 star treatment stay in the Merrion in Dublin. We transferred there and the experience was altogether different.
Worst of all is I even contacted the hotel a few times previously to make sure they knew it was a very special day for me. The hotel is part of the Marriott group and as such any time you contact them is through a central reservation portal. Issue is they merely pass you around from department to department and nobody actually deals with your queries or even answers your questions.
If you want true attention to detail find a boutique type hotel and forget about Marriott altogether.
As I say. 5 star for the room and finishes. 1 star for customer service and attention to client needs. Definitely not worth the €€€€’s
Jazz brunch was fantastic. The music was brilliant and service great too. There was a mix up with our food order which the manager was most apologetic about and took off the bill very graciously. Cocktail menu is superb. Well worth a visit.
If you plan on visiting Dublin you have to stay at the Shelbourne. The staff are extremely attentive and bend over backwards to make sure that you are happy. While staying here our car had a flat tire and the staff changed the tire for us, without hesitation. The rooms are beautiful, the shower feels wonderful with the rain shower, shower head, and the beds are very comfortable. The restaurants are wonderful, so even if you make the mistake and don't stay here, make a visit to the Saddle Room restaurant or the 27 bar.
A real treat. Excellent service, everything works like it is supposed to. The most comfortable bed I have slept in. A new bottle of still and sparkling water on a daily basis. Most luxurious bathrobes. Great breakfast. If you like old establishment classy hotels with great service, the place to be. The one thing I was not taken aback by was the bar. But that provides always a good reason to explore the city further!
Always a great place to stay in Dublin, the welcome from the front door to check in is spot on. The room a little on the minimal side for the fee, but with all amenities available is always a great hotel to stay for a leisure getaway. The sliding door from the shower room to the bedroom was very stiff and the Mrs had difficulty closing then opening again, mentioned it to the front desk but nothing was done about it. The complimentary shoe shining service appreciated and a nice touch.
Great bar and ambience. Fabulous decor! Wasn't overly impressed with the cocktails. Excellent service. Always a favourite!
I was treated to afternoon tea in the Shelbourne Hotel for my birthday . What a wonderful experience. A choice of 3 sittings. Delicious food, endless tea and Ist class service by a charming server. A pianist played on the grand piano to add to the feeling of pampering. Highly recommended.
I give it a 5 star for ambience and service. Wait staff unintrusive(as they should be, but are often not). Food was very good, but not all dishes were excellent. The lamb was wonderful
Lovely atmosphere, polite staff, and good food.
Good fillet steak.
Lovely rooms, great receptionists.
Central location.
A great can-do attitude.
Also a perfect place to stay for a New Year.
Amazing hotel. Great welcome and were upgraded to a suite for a special occasion. Spa and salon are superb! The relaxation room overlooking St. Stephen's Green is a haven for anyone trying to get away from stresses of life! Afternoon tea felt rushed and slightly overpriced compared to other afternoon teas available in the area but overall experience deserves 5 stars. I'd recommend the breakfast here even if you weren't staying at the hotel!
Staff service is the only thing I was impressed with. Food was very poorly presented. Very disappointed.
Fancy hotel with a lot of history. Pretty much every celebrity that's been to Dublin has stayed here. Beautiful common areas and lounges. Some rooms are quite small though.
Shelbourne has an interesting lounge bar with efficient, discreet and polite table service. In the past six years I have been there many times to meet ex colleagues and friends prior to our lunch in nearby restaurants. We have lunched twice in the hotel's restaurant (Saddle Room?) and maybe twice in the lounge bar. The food was 'grand' in an Irish sense. It is difficult to comment on the table service in the restaurant - it's o/k lets say, though possibly that whole area requires a revamp and more attention. 3.5 out of 5. The front door staff (concierge) at point of entry are invariably welcoming and the name 'Shelbourne' is synonymous with upmarket and luxury style hotel. I have never stayed as an overnight guest at the Shelbourne (I'm within walking distance), though I/we have been to a wedding reception a couple of years ago. Overall, probably a 4 out of 5 (which is still 80%) and if I was scoring the lounge bar and front of house staff as stand alone, probably 5 out of 5. Back there again next Tuesday.
Historic hotel. Lively up market buzz. Terrific location. It was too busy to allow us enjoy the facilities which was disappointing so we didn't "feel the love" we were paying for. Comfortable bed but Tiny Room & Miniscule bathroom. On our Bucket List so glad we went but didn't live up to our 'granted rather high' expectations. Pity.
Beautiful hotel that feels luxury and school. Very highly recommend for a luxury place to stay.
Our room was large, more like a suite, amazing breakfast and very friendly and helpful staff at all times.
It's conveniently located and there is a lovely park opposite.
It's not cheap however, but I think it is worth the money - we stayed elsewhere for a night and it was definitely worth the paying the extra £40 or so a night.
