McHales Pub is one of the few places in Mayo that serves Meejums (a slightly less than a pint of Guinness), it's a mix of old and new with the old front bar/shop fixtures still in place (though the shop part is not active) and a more modern recent extension out the back. Personally I go here for the porter (Guinness) but they are also on the Castlebar Gin Trail so if you're after something a bit more trendy they'll find a way to satisify your thirst.

Good atmosphere, usually a good mix of locals and visitors, front bar is a traditional old Irish setting, ie. Where a grocery shop and a bar used to be combined on one premises. When people from rural areas came in to the town they could shop for necessities and enjoy a good conversation over a pint Or two!

A great pub with a great atmosphere. The best part is its not trying to be anything its just a traditional irish pub.

Best pub I've ever been to. Discovered the legend of the meejum too. Tremendous Guinness. Absolutely superb evening here recently. And the free baskets if hot food at 6pm was a seriously impressive move. That black pudding!!!
