I muneer in dubai.I have u.a.e.license can I get posible driving there Irish? If possible what is the rent car rules?
Good selection
My husband and I rented a car from Dan Dooley's in Dublin, Ireland.
We both learned how to drive a stick shift but do not regularly drive manual vehicles. As attorneys, we thoroughly reviewed the contract and purchased full insurance knowing full well the risks of driving a vehicle in another country. After getting used to the vehicle in the parking lot across the street we were a little concerned by a smell but thought perhaps its just because we were a little rusty. Once we were out on the road, things were fine. We made it out of Dublin and spent the night in the Wicklow Mountains. There was still a faint smell but otherwise the car was doing fine. We attributed it to possibly a little burn off from the first day. The second day we made our way southbound on the M7. After stopping at a toll station, the car stopped shifting. We believe the clutch was burned out.
While stranded on the side of the road (and able to call the company thanks to the many friendly Irish who stopped to help us!) Dooley's informed us that we would need to tow and repair the vehicle at our own expense and that it would be a 2k euro hold for damages plus an additional charge for an automatic car replacement. We were also informed that our insurance would not cover these events. Later explained was that the insurance purchased did not cover "human interference" and that vehicle malfunctions of the clutch were not "covered by the insurance." However, none of these exceptions are listed in the rental contract.
In order to make it to our location we had to hop a train and then take a cab at the cost of 90 euro.
Because this all happened on a Saturday, we are now stranded carless in a fairly small tourist town with our vacation on hold. Dooley's has told us that we will not be able to speak with the head office until Monday morning.
I will report back on the result. We have informed Dooley's that they have the opportunity to make this right. I hope they take that opportunity. Otherwise, we are prepared to take action in hope that no other renters receive this maltreatment in the future.
