We had two of the fish surprise set menu. Lovely salmon pate on home made flat bread biscuits, followed by oysters and scallops both beautiful. Next up sotbet then two perfect mains one stuffed plaice and other halebut. Veg gratain potatoes and carrots and squash. Two desert. All with a sunny day and a view of the sea. Both of us thought it was great value and tasty. Will return on bikes again.

Finally visited Barrtrá this evening with my husband (with very high hopes & excitement because of the surprise menu option!).
Quaint, welcoming atmosphere with candles lighting. Lovely, friendly & relaxed staff! No issue accommodating my requests for sauces/dressings on the side.
We both opted for the surprise seafood menu. The breads & 'rud beag' were lovely treats as were our scallop & mussel starters. Sorbet was a little sweet for my taste so passed on that. We both agreed that the mains were a little rich for fish dishes - buttery sauces, stuffing in my fish and a phenomenally creamy potato gratin. A bit disappointed with dessert unfortunately too. The white chocolate 'brownie' was more like a cookie or flapjack. This was served cold for some reason as was my apple crumble. Had lovely locally packed mint tea to finish!
Had a lovely evening but overall meal experience did not have the wow factor I had hoped for.response / report this review -

Our favourite meal in Ireland! Fantastic food, service, and unbeatable view. We had the 5-course Chef's surprise, seafood for me, meat for my husband, and were delighted every course. A must go if you are in the area. They have a garden in the back that you can wander through, and source a lot of local ingredients. We didn't make reservations, but got lucky as we were travelling late Sept.

We had a family dinner. All the surprise seafood menu and 1 vegetarian. Superb and definitive one of the best in ct. Clare. I recommend!

Excellent the best meal in years. The staff were exceptionally attentive. The surprise seafood menu has to be tried to be believed. I give it 10 stars. Well done everyone.

Went here for a spontaneous dinner while spending a weekend in Co. Clare. I ordered the 5-course "Seafood Surprise" menu, and had one of the best dinners of my life. Lovely staff and great atmosphere also. We were lucky to get a table, so I would definitely recommend making a reservation.

I enjoyed my most favorite meal in Ireland right here at Barrtra Seafood Restaurant. Not only was the food absolutely delicious, the service was excellent, and the setting/view was gorgeous! Truly a meal to remember!

Possibly the best restaurant I've tried in Ireland. The food was amazing and the staff extremely friendly. I highly recommend the surprise menu!
