  This is Sei Ladi Dam, one of the seven dams in Batam that support clean water for its residents. Dams are essential because Batam's groundwater supply is difficult to access, due to a aquifer that's very deep in the ground, and rock and soil characteristics. But there's something wrong with this image. The place that I'm standing (in the photo) should not be mainland. Rather, it should be underwater. At the time the image was taken, there was a drought. Thankfully, the dam is now filled up to its safety limit, but Batam residents need to remain vigilant and conserve its water supply.
