Everything is really nice here. The building is so beautiful and you can find the swimming pool inside surrounded by the great architecture of the colonial building. Do not forget to try their buffet dinner and enjoy the happy hour at the bar. All of the staffs are professional and really friendly! Recommended hotel!

One of the most "heritage" feel hotels. The building has been around for a century (since 1918). The rooms are just okay but i kinda like the lounge (eventho it's so business-like) and the ambiance of the lobby. Location is very strategic since it is right in the heart if the city. If you are looking for a top notch-high tech facilities in room I don't recommend staying here tho, the one in here is fine but very standard 3-4 star-ish.

A great hotel with a homey atmosphere of an old Dutch designed house. It's main menus and dessert are superb. Unluckily I didn't have time to take pictures there.

Exquisite & lavish stay in Phoenix. It's so beautiful in every corner of the hotel. Staff hospitality is excellent. Meeting room service is amazing. Love the fitness center, swimming pool, welcome fruits surprise in the room & courtesy are exceptional. Love the breakfast selections while listening gamelan. Can't complain.

The good: beautiful hotel, large, clean, and modern rooms, good food.

Needs improvement: clogged drain, constantly running toilet, inconsistent service. Overall a bit overpriced for what you get. Not a five star hotel.

Was an old hotel redecorated like old time javanese style. I personally prefer modern javanese style. The bathroom quite small. Breakfast quite good. Located in the center of city.

Old hotel that preserved its heritage. I enjoyed the lobby and all their stories there. It has a quite big pool with great view. Food is okay, I enjoyed their “Jamu”. The lobby is quite dark in my opinion.

Elegantly set in the heart of Yogyakarta, the Phoenix Hotel lavish design embraces all aspects off its rich colonial past. Harnessing the atmosphere of a bygone era but with contemporary comfort. Each room has private balconies. The Paprika restautant offer Indonesian and Western dishes, with the open kitchen showcasing the chef's talent.

Great heritage hotel with a wide buffet breakfast option. Only a minor point about the buffet - because it's semi open-air, one morning there was a swarm of fruit flies in the platter of cut papayas. Something should be done to prevent that. Otherwise, a great experience!

Very nice, excellent service, only complaint is wine prices are too high but that seems to be typical for most places in Indonesia. You will be happy here

The Phoenix room has a unique smell that is only reserved for a one start hotel. If your room is facing the street they offer ear plugs. No use because you will feel like you are in NASCAR motor speedways. Towels, pillows, bed sheets need to be change they'er aging and see to many battles. Find somewhere that is more dated and the pricing that match.

It' a nice place to stay. It has a vibrant feeling of old time Indonesia. As if you are staying in high classes' home during Dutch occupation.

Looove this hotel. Big tho, but they still maintain the antique atmosphere in the hotel. The room is nice, they provide candies, salak, and 4 kinds of tea and coffee in the room. Swimming pool is small but nice too. While breakfast is also delicious.

Heritage hotel in the middle of Yogyakarta. Beautiful interior but small rooms. Excellent breakfast. Food does not have much in the way of vegetarian options for Dinner. Lovely corridors. Good and helpful staff. One finds it difficult to understand sometimes.

The beautiful old colonial building has obviously been subject to numerous renovations and expansion making it a comfortable albeit soulless hotel. The restaurant offers diverse local and international cuisine, elegant cocktail bar and exceptional service.

It was such a delightful experience staying at this hotel. The service was excellent and the staffs were friendly. The classic taste made the stay more enjoyable. Very generous of them to surprise me with a birthday cake on the second day. Will come back for sure.

The hotel is good, clean, and organized. The staffs are also friendly, helpful, and professional. However, I found that the location is a bit off to the tourist spots and hence, we had to use cab just to go to the mall.

A few weeks ago we went to Yogyakarta and stayed at The Phoenix Hotel, elegantly situated in down town Yogyakarta, the cradle of Javanese civilization. This legendary hotel was initially built as private estate in 1918. Through the ensuing decades, the property changed hands a number of times, until a Dutch caretaker turned it into Pensioner Hotel. Come in and check it out for yourself!

The legendary Malioboro street is just nearby, while the world heritage Borobudur and Prambanan temples are only an hour drive. Yogyakarta’s culture heritage and picturesque settings emit a distinctive charm. And at last, I enjoyed a traditional Javanese body massage in an beautiful setting and managed to take in the palace qualities: peace and quiet. That’s luxury.

One of the best hotel stays I've had in Asia, service was impeccable and we were given a free upgrade to a lovely pool view in one of their newer wings. Breakfast buffet had a good variety to choose from, and a special section for local delights such as tempeh and their special local coffee brew. Turn down service was also a nice surprise. Thanks for the lovely stay.

We loved this hotel. We had a room facing the pool. All the amenities were inside these totems statues in the bathroom with a "open here" sign on themvery clever. The pool was absolutely beautiful and the staff professional and friendly.

The hotel is great, we loved it so much and the staff is great, too. The restaurant is also superb. Why I'm giving only 4 stars? Because my wife forgot a jacket she loves in the room and I sent them an email to ask for it but got no answer at all.

A nice place to stay, with a well-maintained building and nice breakfast. The check-in with its welcome snacks is also a great addition. One thing to improve will be its carpark, which I found to be a bit small, just in case the hotel is full. Overall, one of the better places to stay in Yogyakarta.

Albeit our short stay, it's a step back in time, a real gem!

Colonial atmosphere, beautifully decorated with Indonesian art crafts, uber friendly staff, and not to forget international restaurant serving Indonesian dishes, cozy bed room and meeting room. And oh, well-maintained gym, spa and sauna as well!

The place looks good but has a ton of problems like hot water issues, electrical set up problems, horrendous room service and staff who have no clue what's going on. The staff seem to be all over the place and keep proving conflicting information. I would suggest that you avoid the place.
