The Robert Hamilton monument is one of the oldest surviving buildings built by British colonial government in Bengkulu. The monument was erected to honor and in memory of Captain Robert Hamilton who died on the 15th of December 1793. The monument is still in relatively good shape despite the factor of time. It is located at a roundabout crossing of three roads, making it easy to see it from a moving vehicle.

If we look at the monument closer and carefully, we will see an inscription on the monument wall that says,
"Underneath this obelisk are interred the Remains of CAPTAIN ROBERT HAMILTON who died on the 15th of Dec' 1793 at the Age of 38 Years in the Command of the Troops and Second Member of the Government"
