Great place to learn about different kinds of Batik and a bit of history too! We had a good tour guide who is very friendly and also informative. There is a workshop for you to learn how to batik! Apparently, after trying it myself, nge-batik is very very hard! Now I begin to understand the value of our Batik!

It is a -must-cultural-visit, if you are the ones who love Indonesian traditional batik. Beside of displaying lots collection of batik from diverse area in Indonesia, you'll be guided by the staffs who will explain the meaning and whereabouts the batik coming from.

Moreover you can also learn how to "membatik" , the simple one, from the instructor. If you wanna use the real membatik tools such as canting, it's also available if any instructors around.

Pay a very cheap ticket and get a guide to show you around. It's very well worthy. The guide will show you all collection in three separate rooms.

The first room is dedicated for Yogya and Solo batik. They are inner part of Javanesse with strict rules on batik usage. Each pattern has their own meaning and user, mainly for the royals.

The second room is for coastal batik, from all over northern coast of Java. They're more liberal in pattern and usage, and also more colorful.

The third room is specific for Pekalongan's batik. You'll see the creative 2-in-1 pattern called Pagi Sore and also Terang Bulan which is less complicated.

Don't forget to join the workshop and experience the struggle to create a batik cloth. The staff is very knowledgeable and friendly. Highly recommended.
