I camped at Gunung Sibayak overnight on a weekday and I must say, it had a spectacular view of the mountain range with the constant flushing of the geysers. Camping grounds are easy to find due to the presence of a heck lot of rubbish in around it. However, the camping area is relatively clean area with some form of clay on the ground. As it was a weekday, we were the only ones on the mountain. The environment, though littered with rubbish, is quiet, tranquil and peaceful. Words won't describe how beautiful nature is. However, the lack of cover makes it dangerous in a lightning thunderstorm. In addition, there wasn't any mobile signal even at the crater top. Pro tip: Set your tent door away from the direction of the geysers + on the many flat surfaces

I took an easy 2 hours hiking route here and had a chance to see a great picturesque view and get close to a volcano crater.

Nice hiking with amazing scenes and close view on semi alive volcano. I didnt take the tour guide as i tracked there in day time. If u prefer the follow the sun rise tour, it is recommended to get a local tour guide as trekking in night is extremely danger.

This is located near Brastagi town. A short hike and you get a fantastic view of the surrounding area, cloud formation, beautiful sun rise. The crater is full of blow holes, you can hear them miles away. Walked down to the crater to check these out. You can see steam coming out of these with heavy sulfer smell.

Amazing views. 2-3hr climb depending on your fitness level. I started walking right off the base where the angkot dropped me off. Should you get a guide? Idk, for me i did coz im bad at directions & didnt wana take a risk. Should you go for sunrise walk & set off frm your guesthse at 4am? Based on my guide, it's a hit or miss, but in Sep 2017, it was mostly a miss w only 2 out of 15 sunrise views. To me, you need to wear long pants if you're descending via the forest+bamboo route. & i definitely recommend trekking shoes.

Fairly easy to hike, from city get car name bayu and ask them to drop you at entrance to hike, pay retribution IDR 5.000 dont pay more than this! Also ask for the ticket for proof, then follow the road, hardly get lost if you follow the main route, check link in my bio for detailed info how to hike sibayak

We made the whole trek from Berastagui, the natural landscape is amazing, and the trek is not steep. You should be careful selecting your trail, and consider to comeback quick if the weather is adverse. On our way back, we went to the thermal pools.

One of the closest hiking from Medan. Short hike, but amazing view! an hour and half of hike and you will reach the top. Smell of sulphur throughout the hike.
