Sultan Ma'mun Al Rashid Perkasa Alam as a leader of Sultanate of Deli started the development of Masjid Al Mashun on 21 August 1906 (1 Rajab 1324 AH).

The entire development was completed on 10 September 1909 (25 Sha'ban 1329 AH) and marked by the implementation of the first Friday prayers at the mosque.

The overall development budget was one million
guilders [citation needed ]. The Sultan developed the Mosque according to his principle that it should be more important than his own grand palace, the Maimoon Palace.

Construction of the mosque was financed by the Sultanate of Deli, the Deli Maatschappij, and Tjong A Fie, the wealthiest businessman in Medan at that time.

This magnificent mosque is one of the heritage of the Deli Sultanate. It is located right next to Maimun Palace which is also a very interesting tourist place to visit at once. Most people usually take pictures of this mosque from the front side, I tried to take from different side to get the different result also, but still beautiful. If you are a Moslem, it would be better to pray at this mosque. And try to come soon before the call to pray so you can listen to the beautiful sound of adzan from this mosque.

Also renovation on the "Wudhu: and bathroom area are great.
New garden with water fountain are also build outside. Good for childrens and family.

This great masjid was built in 1906 and finished three years later with architectural style adapted from India, Europe, and Middle East. Except for praying, people also come for sight seeing and photography. Tourist are allowed to enter in certain areas.

One of the oldest mosques in the city of Medan, has a high historical value. Built by sultan Deli and its location close to the maimon palace. The shape is magnificent and unique. Has beautiful carvings and great infrastructure, Malay, Arabic and Indian style. This mosque became the pride of the people of Medan and has become an icon of Medan.

This mosque was completed in 1909 and one of the oldest mosques in Medan. If you can see in the picture is that the mosque has an octagonal shape and has wings to the south, east, north and west. That’s what makes the building unique in architectural aspects. The influence of Morocco, Turkey and Middle Eastern style can be seen on the building itself. A captivating Mosque indeed!

Love this mosque, especially in Ramadhan. In Ramadhan, for breaking fasting you can get bubur sup/bubur pedas, a kind of porridge that is only cooked and served in Ramadhan.

I visited here and went inside alone.
But before that since I was wearing a short pants, so I was required to put on a kind of skirts like fabrics tgat it will cover my legs to the anckles.
I went inside the building and a very nice gentlemen kind of tour me around and told me some history of this mosque building.
I found especially flowering painting on the glasses.

One of the beautiful landmarks of Medan city - the surrounding area is quite messy and not well-kept (the sidewalks and the fence especially around the cemetary)

Quite impressive from both the inside and out, but wouldn't bother making this a major part of any itinerary.

I love this mosque as an iconic building in Medan. But the facility such as toilet is very bad. I hope they will make a better park and toilet in the future :)
