Antique mosque with strong structure. The marble floor is smooth, the wall is thick, the vestibule has wooden carvings. It is very old & is the location of Sunan Ampel tomb. Lots of Madurese traders selling dates, food, & clothes. Piles of Alquran are provided for reciter. Also, free drinkin water is available in pot all over the mosque.

Went there on a Saturday mid morning and there were many people for worship I think, didn’t go and look around as too many people but I was stunned by all the garbage and trash around outside . Surprised how filthy the grounds were around , didn’t bother

It's so amazing to have tahajud (Night praying) on old mosque of Ampel. We can have spiritual trip along midnight journey. A lot of helpful man whom appointing and explaining about the spirit sequence from a guest guider, until parking man there.

ONE of the oldest mosque in Indonesia. Made by the Nine Saints of Indonesian Muslims or Walisongo.
This mosque is one of pilgrimage destinations together with the memorial cemetery of Sunan Ampel, the oldest of the Nine Saints. Most of the original part of the mosque are still intact considering they're wooden.
The municipal of Surabaya did a good job by preserving the whole complex and its surroundings.response / report this review -

Old and historic mosque building. The mosque was renovated several times just to keep the power of the building. But the building and architecture of the mosque remained original as when Sunan Ampel (the Islamic propagator figure) built it in the past. Most Muslims feel sacred and solemn while worshiping in the mosque.

This current mosque or frontage is an annexed to the original mosque.
It is cool inside as it has a high roof.
It was built in 1420 and the oldest mosque in Surabaya.
There are many entrances to this mosque.
There is a long row of shops linked to it selling Muslim clothing, dates, prayer accessories, food, drinks etc.
