Tomb of Missonaris Reverend Dr. IL Nommensen
This tomb is located in Sigumpar Dangsina, Sigumpar, Laguboti, Toba Samosir regency, North Sumatera 22384, Indonesia.
Nommensen's tomb is one of Batak's modern historical sites. Nommensen was called to be a missonary of Batak land after Richard Burton and others failed to carry out missions in Batak land. Nommensen was called to be an evangelist in the land of Batak in order to carry out the reformist main mission in Barmen, Germany.
Nommensen came to Batak land in the mid 1880s and succeeded. He used a cultural approach, first learning Batak language and then learning Batak culture. Not surprisingly, Nommensen managed to turn everyone in the northern region of Batak land into Christianity. While in the southern region has been Islamized by Tuanku Imam Bonjol through Tuanku Rao, who are the Batak people surnamed Sinambela.
Nommensen then cooperated with the Dutch colonial government based in Medan who had not succeeded in conquering Batak land.
The Batak war was raging when Nommensen undertook his mission. The central defense of Sisingamangaraja XII in Balige was battered and exhausted by the Dutch siege. There was an opportunity for Nommensen to offer a peaceful way and carry out his mission in the conquest of Batak land by the Dutch colonial government.
Nommensen worked long enough in the Batak land until he died and according to his request he was buried in the land of Batak, namely in Sigumpar, Laguboti, Tobasa.
Nommensen was instrumental in improving human resources in the Batak lands, since in addition to carrying out evangelism, Nommensen also implemented basic education and carpentry, so that in addition to missionaries he also earned the honorable title of Ompu Nabolon and later confirmed as the first Ephorus of the HKBP ethnic church.
I suggest this place is worth a visit as one of the most important sites for the modern era of Batak. And finally rest in peace ompu nabolon Nommensen.

The grave of Dr. IL Nommensen in Sigumpar, Laguboti, Tobasa
This cemetery was clearly one of the modern historical sites Batak.
Nommensen is following missonaris after Richard Burton etc fail to do mission in the land of Batak. Then sign Nommensen from the central mission of the reformists in the Barmen, Germany.
