Executive Summary of Lentera Aviation Training Program:

There are few places in the world where the people live in such rugged and inaccessible isolation as Papua, Indonesia. Aviation is vital to virtually every aspect of life and the medical, educational, ministry and infrastructure needs in Papua outweigh the current resources of mission aviation organizations. One major organization estimates that it only meets 30% of requests and there will only be an increase in the need for aviation in the foreseeable future. One of the major bottlenecks is the dependency on, and high turn over of, foreign pilots, mechanics and administrators.

In order to answer this need the Aviation Training Program under Yayasan Lentera will build capacity in committed Papuan Christians who will partner in aviation ministry in order to reinforce and strengthen the overall aviation service in Papua.

Lentera believes that the best way for students to learn is by seeing and doing. In this organization they will have an opportunity for ‘hands –on learning’; (both spiritually and academically), before they go on to an official school to obtain their license.
