Beautiful gallery featuring amazing artwork. The artists we met were very friendly and so talented. They sell beautiful sea glass jewelry that we bought as gifts for friends back home. Must see if you are going to Jacmel.

They have created a space for artists to create and imagine together. Warm and welcoming, Jacmel Arts Center creates an atmosphere that allows inspiration to happen every day. This is a must see in Jacmel, a town with fabulous people, incredible art and an ocean breeze.

Located with the back of the gallery facing the beautiful mosaic walkway on the shore of Jacmel Bay this gallery and studio is the real deal. The building which is not undergoing some much needed renovations from damage sustained in 2010 earthquake is still open and offering a wide variety of local art. While I was visiting the gallery there was a group of dancers practicing to to the beat of a Haitian drum in a larger upstairs room. Beside that room there was a group of Deaf young adults working on sea glass nativity ornaments. Many art projects were stored in this area in various stages of completion. Downstairs in the main gallery the artists mingled with the customers showing them some of their own work. This artists were friendly and not at all pushy. There was a donation box should a visitor decide to help out but did not want to purchase anything. Artists are paid for the work they sell with a small commision going to the use of the studio and the upkeep of the building. In the gift shop section of the gallery there is a great selection of smaller items such as jewelry, paper mache and gift items. I noticed a few volunteer teams shopping there during my visit. While all of the artists are Haitian the director of the Center is American so there is no language barrier if an English speaking person has any question. I would definitely recommend this be added to your list of must do things on your next visit to Jacmel! There is also a great Cafe' next door so come hungry!
