We wanted to grab a quick lunch, since it was Istrian cuisine week and the menu sounded quite exciting - donkey ragout, Istrian veal and truffle chocolate cake. The donkey Ragout with polenta on the side was actually quite good, however the veal entree was thoroughly uninspiring and quite frankly reminiscent of subpar canteen food, especially the sauce which tasted like it was made with some sort of instant powder. The truffled chocolate cake was a little better, but the portion size was downright ridiculous - especially since it was incredibly dense and sweet. I'm sure that calorie-wise, the dessert would have been a whole meal on its own.
To top it off, the service was excruciatingly slow.
Would not recommend.

My summary of our 4 night stay at the Hotel Kastel is that it was charmless and inefficient. Charmless because the hotel staff have forgotten the most basic rules of interaction with guests, which is how to engage them with a smile and a greeting. I feel that having had positive feedback from a number of guidebooks and guests they have become complacent. This is clearly unacceptable when guests are paying peak rates in August. To compound this the staff are inefficient, unable to copy passports or make it clear that access to the upper car park requires a remote key. I will not be returning and cannot recommend this hotel on the basis of our experience here.

Great restaurant, specialising in all kinds off plates with truffles. Very nice staff. Sorry we can't speak about the hotel. It looks good. I have heard 27 rooms, swimming pool and spa facilities. Don't forget you have a hotel in the old centre off Motovun, very romantic. So you can not drive direct to the hotel but they haven an excellent shuttle service.

We had couple of sandwiches, ice cream and drinks, it's a good place to hide away from the sun at its peak (12-17h), since there's a lot of shadow.We didn't stay there.

We stayed overnight at the campsite and were given a 10% discount for having dinner there and and the possibility of using their indoor pool for free, which we didn't as the campsite had a pool. Food was good, neither cheap nor pricy and staff was friendly. Nice and unique location. Would recommend others to go there too.

The hotel is all the way on top of Motovun. If you're driving, you'll have to park a bit down the hill and walk to the hotel. Pleasant stay and nice breakfast. They also have a good restaurant.
