Roatan is a small island owned by Honduras it is really nice and friendly most of the people on the island speak English as well as Spanish because it was a British territory but is now part of Honduras. This place is also a very good place for snorkeling and scuba diving.

I have been to the Island 4 times and I’m headed there for my 5th in two days. My travels there have been humanitarian,as I have helped to build 4 homes and soon a fifth for poor families that live below the poverty line even for Honduras. Most travelers never really see the abject poverty in some of the most beautiful places on earth!! The people, the island , the ocean here are what makes this place worth experiencing. “Give people a hand up, not a hand out”

Interesting place. Unfortunately our snorkeling excursion here was cancelled. We decided to just walk around. There is a place to get your passport stamped. We left ours on the boat. By the time we went back to get them, then to the Island, it was closed. So take it with you!

The touristy area (port) is kinda small. Some places to eat. Some touristy shops. No beach to get to. But from the pier, you can see so many fish. We even saw a jellyfish. The water is so clear.

There were some dancers, and a guy who will cut a coconut for you to drink from. That's about it for entertainment. If you walk toward the parking lot, there is an area you can walk into town. It's a bit scary. You have a bunch of locals standing there yelling to come out, and it's safe. Lol. They actually scared me more, and I turned around.

We finally did venture out the local side. It's a little overwhelming at first. They all just want to take you to a restaurant, so they get a kick back. They will hound you, and follow you. We just ducked into a restaurant, and they went away.

We didn't go too far. There are a few restaurants, and shops. Think swap meet. Kinda like that. It's all dirt roads, and poor sickly skinny dogs all over the place. It's actually quite sad to see this place.

On the way out, there were guys with monkeys. For 5 bucks, you can hold one and take photos. This little guy went crazy on my head. lol. It was cute, but so wild.

Interesting place. Glad we ventured out a bit, and got a glimpse of the local life and culture.

Roatán is a small Honduran island. Lovely people. Most of their food reminds me of Jamaica. Very clean and beautiful cruise port (Mahogany Bay)you can also get your passport stamp for free. Beautiful country even under a storm warning.

This part of Honduras has some amazingly beautiful coastal areas for tourists to enjoy. You can get a work out snorkeling, zip lining or just walking the beaches.

I spent more of my time around the local culture and found the people to be extremely hard working and friendly. They truly work hard to make sure tourism remains key to their economy.

Definitely a place were you can find a great place to sit back and just enjoy each sunrise and sunset. Or go into the local towns and learn the cultural experience of growing up on this tropical island.

First, I moved here from the USA so admittedly I'm a little biased. However, if you are a diver you'll find some of the best diving in the world. And if you love snorkeling and white sand beaches this is a great place to visit. Fishing is outstanding too. You'll find prices to be very reasonable except the airfare which tends to run a little high. There's a place to stay for every budget too. There are a few must sees like Arches Iguana Farm and Johnson's Sloth Farm. And several great zip lines. But, the big draw is diving and at bargain rates with excellent dive operations. There is no shopping here to speak of and don't expect to find everything at the grocery store you're accustomed to. The Islanders are friendly and many speak English but nearly all business's have English speaking people. Come, kick back and enjoy the slow island pace.

Went with a real estate agent group for a week. My agent friend was promoting residences on the Bay Islands. Foreigners cannot directly own real estate, but you set up an entity that can. Stayed in beautiful rented condos at the Mayan Princess and Parrot Tree Plantation. You can stay in the clear warm water for hours - just the right temperature and no predators (at least when I was there). When I snorkeled, it was like being in a tropical fish tank. There are ziplines through the forest. After a week, I got a little tired of being so disconnected from my active California busy life, but if you want to escape from the latter, this is the perfect place.
