I went to the restaurant with my family to celebrate mother's day. Although the foods are delicious, the price is quite expensive which located in wet market.
The service is so disappointed, we have made the reservation. When I arrived on time and told the reception said that name & phone number. He didn't give the responses and walk away. As I assumed he showed us the table. Suddenly, he turned back, rudely said that don't follow him and just stay there! I am curious what kind of service. After he walked back, and said just walk along the path. 😤
The food I ate was fantastic! I couldn't have been more impressed with this place. It was vibrant, colourful, active, local! The price was reasonable, and the food was great. The owner was having a great time busting out dance moves whilst taking people's orders. This would be my number 1 recommendation for restaurants in Hong Kong.
Billie Jean and some Black eyed peas songs seem to be the owner’s favorites. The owner, Robby is the showman here, it’s all about him from showing off his beer bottles opening skills using chopsticks to moonwalking and even doing the splits. All this between communicating with his staff over their ear-pods and mixing food and toasting with almost everyone! Now the food! Food was good, wouldn’t say exceptional but it was good as the price is not matching the quality (apparently prices soared after this place became famous) options ranging from Chinese, Thai to Japanese and even inked spaghetti. Again the vibe here is crazy! That’s what it’s all about! Totally recommend it if you don’t mind waiting for a minimum of half an hour before getting in.
On the pricier side with $78 per razor clam and $68 per scallop. If you don't want to wait then come right when it opens. If you come during peak dinnertime, prepare to wait at minimum, one hour. There are a few restaurants on this floor and it's not really separated so make sure the place you go to says Tung Po. The razor clam still had a little sand in some pieces and the beef in the clay pot was quite chewy and not tender. The food is alright, the atmosphere is cool though.
Love the unpretentious atmosphere and fantastic food. The boss was dancing around with music blasting out loud. He even had his hair cut by his customer. It’s definitely worth a visit. Love the part where they wrote on the menu, “if you ask for our recommendations and you don’t take them, then don’t ask us please.” If you cant take such straightforwardness, don’t go there. We asked for recommendations and we did not regret any. The eel with pork claypot is good. So is the golden prawn and bamboo clam dishes. Highly recommended.
One of the most famous Dai Pai Dong restaurants. Do not even think about the surroundings, just enjoy the food. Must try.
Fantastic. Food was excellent. Dishes to choose from range from traditional to super-creative. Fun, rowdy atmosphere. Must try: Chug beer from special beer bowls. Down to earth, unpretentious, delicious, fun HK experience. A true cultural experience. (Very popular, expect a wait)
Awesome HK style cuisine. Great atmosphere. Rowdy fun place to have dinner. Don't go alone go with friends. Thumbs up for host Robbie 👍
An amazing experience for the mouth and the mind
Big place Always crowded but interesting to see the different kinds of people all enjoying the food
I appreciate mostly the seafood but the menu is wide Meat vegetables noodles and lot of different things only Asian people dare to eat
Super friendly.
A but expensive. But it worths the price
Food is OK, atmosphere is rowdy and especially fun if you have a big group (10+) of beer drinkers. Great experience for visitors if you want something more interesting than typical "party life".
Amazing. Origin Cantonese food and creative fusion taste. You can't stop eat and drink. And having fun.
Must try restaurant in Hong Kong. Experience the true local way of dinning. Friendly Bilingual English and Chinese speaking staff who can also pop open bottle beer with chop stick. Serving excellent traditional as well as fusion dishes. Defiantly worth trying.
A local diner serving good food, a bit pricey but diners are treated with a uniquely local street food dining experience
pricy but below average food quality. disappointed and won’t go again.
Great local seafood restaurant located in a government market building of North Point. Good food, very good service, relaxing ambience, good value for money, you get the fun and the nice food. Great choice for group.
Crazy good food, and a great atmosphere within this cooked food market. Crab is more than worth the money, ours came with roe still attached, and the squid ink cuttlefish noodles are incredibly subtly flavoured not to miss.
Food wasn't spectacular since the price was quite spectacular. I remember this place for being cheep and cheerful. Paid $500 for 3 dishes that didn't make us full. I couldn't fathom why this place is so popular. There are much better places around.
This is our second visit. Hectic. English is available in the menu. We like steamed fish head with tofu, deep fried pork knuckle from previous visit. Steam razor clam is nice. But I wouldn't order squid ink spaghetti again. Cash only.
Great dining experience in a local wet market - if you come here on weekends, the owners and staff love to blast a mix of Western and Chinese pop music, dance while the tables cheer, open beer bottles with beer and drink with you. It's a very unique and lively environment that's popular with visitors and parties. They also do soju bombs which are fun for large groups!
The food is good, but you are paying restaurant prices for wet market food. You'll notice that most of the tables are filled with expats or Westernised Chinese - probably not the best value for locals who can find plenty of great food elsewhere and don't need the gimmicky experience.
Try the squid ink spaghetti - it's one of their specialties and watching your whole table's mouths turn black while talking to each other is pretty hilarious.
pity i didn't snap pictures when I dined here and you don't have to go to a bad ass restaurant to experience Cantonese cooking
go in a group and let loose with the menu (if there's one). for 2 persons, it will be a tad lacking with orders
there's still table service but abit inattentive but you paying fractions of the prices
This is a casual dining place inside Java Street Municipal Building. There are many restaurants inside the building. Tung Po is mainly Cantonese with a twist. Good for big group to share. A bit expensive though. Make sure you have reservation before you go!
Really good food, especially the crab bee hoon and razor clams. Fun place and you drink beer out of small bowls. If you are lucky, the owner will drink with you or even sing.
Eating hall with many restaurant vendors, Tung Po being the most crowded. This is a no frills place that serves fresh delicious seafood and beer. I would put this on my must do list as it gives off a very lively local vibe. One table had a group of 10 old men playing card games and drinking, while the next table has a family complete with toddlers hiding under the table. One of my eating highlights during my HK visit, both for the quality of food and awesome local vibe.
Certainly a hidden gem. A must if you are in the area and want to experience a unique local experience. Beer is served in bowls, food is delicious and servers dance and have fun with you. The whole experience is so much fun!
A hidden gem. Don't expect fancy decor or low prices. The price of dishes here on the slightly higher side but you get very high quality dishes. Go during the weekend night times. It will be packed. There'll be beer girls ready to serve you Chinese beer in a bowl. Quite authentic with great food.
