INTERVIEW - Session one @ TEDxHSMC #TEDxHSMC
TEDxLingnanUniversity Main Stage Event
Most assume that “there’s always more fish in the sea,” but the reality is that many important species are declining due to unsustainable fishing. When marine biologist Dr. Yvonne Sadovy first came to Hong Kong, a Humphead Wrasse (a.k.a Napoleon Wrasse) caught her eye outside one of the many seafood restaurants in this bustling center of trade.
Over the next 20 some years, she went on to study the fascinating biology of this gentle giant, uncover how its cycle of life was being broken and become an advocate to save it from extinction. Through legislation backed by careful research, social media, and innovative facial recognition technology, there is now hope for Humphead population to recover, and by following this example, we can have our fish species and eat them too.
