One of HKUST 20th anniversary events, GBC acts as an opportunity to convene hkust students and alumni with delegates from other institutions to exchange their views on emerging markets.

    The Hong Kong Observatory has lowered the typhoon signal to no. 3, which means tomorrow's events would be held as scheduled - see you at Tin Ka Ping Hall tomorrow at 9:45am for the Finance Panel!

    As the Typhoon Signal No.8 is still hoisted, ALL events today, including Case Studies Workshop and Roundtable Dinner will be cancelled. We expect events to be resumed tomorrow, with Finance Panel Discussion starting at 10am at Tin Ka Ping Hall.

    Day 4 Closing Ceremony Keynote Speaker Dr William FUNG Executive Deputy Chairman of Li & Fung Limited

    ... Dr William K Fung, SBS, OBE, JP, aged 62, joined the Group in 1972 and was appointed Executive Deputy Chairman in 2011.

    Graduated from Princeton University with a Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering. Holds an MBA degree from the Harvard Graduate School of Business. Holds a Degree of Doctor of Business Administration, honoris causa from the Hong Kong University of Science & Technology. Holds the Honorary Degree of Doctor of Business Administration from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

    Dr Fung is a non-executive director & Deputy Chairman of the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation Ltd. An independent non-executive director of Shui On Land Limited, Singapore Airlines Limited, Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited, The Hongkong and Shanghai Hotels, Limited and VTech Holdings Limited. Dr Fung was Past Chairman of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, the Hong Kong Exporters’ Association, the Pacific Economic Cooperation Committee and a former member of the Hong Kong Trade Development Council.

    Dr Fung is also the co-author of the book “Competing in a Flat World”. In 2008, Dr Fung was awarded the SBS (“Silver Bauhinia Star”) by the Government of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region.

    Day 1 Opening Ceremony Keynote speakers Ms. Umran Beba President of PepsiCo Asia Pacific

    Umran Beba was appointed President, Asia Pacific Region, PepsiCo, in February, 2010. In this role, Ms. Beba is responsible for PepsiCo’s food and beverages businesses throughout the Asia-Pacific region, spanning more than 20 countries.

    A 17-year PepsiCo veteran, Ms. Beba has held a wide range of roles since joining the company in 1994. Before assuming her current position, Ms. Beba was President of PepsiCo’s South East Europe Region, covering Turkey, Greece, Cyprus, Israel and the Balkans. Prior to that, she was the Business Unit General Manager for East Mediterranean – comprising Turkey, Lebanon, Jordan, Syria and Iraq – and before that, Ms. Beba held the position of General Manager, Frito Lay, Turkey.

    As an active champion of Diversity and Inclusion, Ms. Beba has been instrumental in leading PepsiCo’s Female Talent development efforts in many parts of the world. In February 2010, Forbes Magazine named PepsiCo Turkey as the #1 company in Turkey for “fastest female advancement” out of 121 companies analyzed.

    Ms. Beba is a Board Member of Calbee Group Japan, a Council Member of Foods Industry Asia, an Advisory Council Member for the Switzerland-based Women International Network (WIN), an Advisory Council Member for Hong Kong University of Science and Technology Business School, and an Advisory Council Member for “Mentorship for Women for Board Seats”, organized by Praesta and Forbes in Turkey. Ms. Beba holds an MBA and a BSc in Industrial Engineering from Boğaziçi University in Turkey. She lives in Hong Kong with her husband, Prof. Dr. Ali Beba, and their two sons.

    Day 3 Entrepreneurship Great Minds Miss Miranda Gao Founder of the Startup Leadership Program Co-founder of Groupreneurs

    Miranda Gao is the co-founder of Groupreneurs, a social networking platform based in Hong Kong to connect entrepreneurs through online Q&A micro-networks and offline city-based meetups. Entrepreneurs run into completely different problems as they proceed with their ventures and the Groupreneurs team is all about bringing talents, business service providers and early-stage capital providers into different micro-networks to interact with entrepreneurs. Having studied and worked in Hong Kong, China and the US, Miranda believes in cultural and academic diversity, and the value of social networking. Connecting people and making positive social impacts is really her passion. Prior to Groupreneurs, Miranda was the Sponsorship Associate for Harvard China Forum in 2011, one of the largest China-focused conferences in North America bringing influential business leaders, policy-makers, and leading scholars to Harvard University to discuss current trends in different aspects of China's development. Miranda is the founding Program Leader for the Startup Leadership Program in Hong Kong and Fellow in the Class of 2012. She plays cello, travels a lot and is fascinated by Tibetan Buddhism.
