Happy Father’s Day! 😊🇬🇾 . Getting your kids to regularly brush their teeth two times per day for two minutes, can sometimes be a bit of a struggle. Between tantrums and tears at home, it can be difficult to teach the importance of good oral health to our youngest patients. . Here are a few tips all #fathers should use to make brushing teeth more fun and to encourage their children to brush well, regularly.... . 👶 Play copycat. Children love to mimic fun activities around them. Have your toddler watch you #brush your #teeth, and exaggerate how enthusiastic you are about brushing. Keep your child’s toothbrush nearby so he/she can mimic the fun you’re having while #brushing your teeth. . ✈️ Turn the tooth brush into a toy. Show your child how to brush their teddy bear’s teeth or let him/her pretend to brush your teeth. Make your child realize that #toothbrushes can be fun to use. . 👨‍⚕️ Play Show-Tell-Do. While you’re showing your child how fun brushing teeth can be, tell him/her why they need to brush daily. Explain that brushing helps to remove sticky stuff from teeth, and if brushing isn’t done, the #sugar bugs will eat the sticky stuff and their teeth. Show that brushing helps to keep teeth strong and white and helps to get rid of the bad sticky stuff. Then, do it together. . ☝️Use your #finger as a tooth brush. If you’re still struggling to get your #child to brush, wrap some gauze on your finger and brush your toddler’s teeth with your finger. He/she may find this less threatening than a big, long #toothbrush. . Eventually your child will understand that brushing teeth is fun, and an important part of taking care of their body. ☺️ #ParentingDoneRight. . DM us if you have any questions.

Dental Outreach in Region 1 Guyana. 😷🤓🇬🇾 . Coconut Water 🌴🥥💦 Low in calories, naturally free of fat and cholesterol, more potassium than a banana, and super hydrating; these are just a few of the many benefits ascribed to coconut water. 😃 .... Here’s a bit more details: 🥥 Natural sports drink- Coconut water’s natural electrolytes make it a solid match for traditional sports drinks. 🥥 Low in calories- With only 45 calories in a cup, coconut water is a great substitute for higher calorie drinks like sodas or juice. 🥥 Potassium- Coconut water has more than 10 times the amount of potassium of most sport’s drinks at 405 mg per cup. 🥥 Calcium and magnesium- Calcium is vital for more than just strong bones and teeth; it helps muscle contractions and aids in proper functioning. Magnesium helps to move calcium and potassium into muscles, thus aiding in contraction and relaxation. 🥥 Antioxidants- In addition to it’s hydrating benefits, coconut water also contains antioxidants that help to neutralize oxidative stress and free radicals. 🥥 Amino acids- Are essential for repairing tissues and are the building blocks of protein. Coconut water contains more alanine, arginine, cysteine, and serine than cow’s milk. 🥥 Cytokinins- The hormones that help plants grow, known as cytokinins, are also found in coconut water. These compounds are believed to have anti-aging and cancer-fighting properties. 🤷‍♂️ . So what about coconut water and your teeth? 🤔 🚫 Of the total sugar content, pure coconut water contains 40% glucose, 25% sucrose and 35% fructose which are the types of simple sugars that feed the bacteria in plaque, resulting in tooth decay. It is worth noting that many of the commercial brands of coconut water can be high in added sugar. 😣 . With all of that being said, this doesn’t mean you have to avoid pre-packaged coconut water altogether, just avoid drinking too much and rinse with plain water after. Or better yet, crack open a green coconut yourself and drink that instead, like Dr. Budhai did in this post. . #DentalOutreach #Dentistry #Dentist #Coconut #CoconutWater #Teeth #Health #SmileDesigners #Guyana @ Kumaka, Barima-Waini

Smile, it’s Mother’s Day. 😊❤️ . Dental Health Tips for Moms🤰 . 🤱 For Expecting & New Moms:... You may be getting a lot less sleep for a while, which can impact bone health, your #teeth and gums, as well as overall health. Mild to moderate gum disease is common during pregnancy, so regular checkups are extra important. Calcium and Magnesium are important minerals for expecting and new #mothers. Calcium is known to help build and maintain bones and teeth, and Magnesium helps to transport Calcium around the body. Magnesium is also known to promote restful sleep and reduce issues such as headaches, leg cramps, and even teeth grinding (bruxism). Calcium and Magnesium can be found naturally in many foods, and may be taken as supplements. . 💁‍♀️ For Moms with older children: With all the effort and time spent on raising children, #moms may often put their own health needs aside and overlook important things like regular checkups with the doctor and #dentist. Find ways to make it as easy as possible to maintain good oral health at home and visit your Dentist every 6-12 months. With younger kids, it can be fun, as well as healthy to set aside family time for teeth #brushing and #flossing. . 👵 For “Experienced” Moms & Grandmothers: As women age, changes in hormones and other factors can increase the risk for #bone loss and gum disease. Stress, sleep and diet all have an impact on #oral health as well as whole-body wellness. A diet rich in Calcium and Magnesium is still important, as well as a healthy and active lifestyle. Bone loss often appears first in the #jaw, and senior women may also have had #dental work such as #implants, #bridges, or #dentures that need regular care. That’s why regular dental checkups remain important throughout life! . DM us if you have any questions. 😊 Happy Mother’s Day 🇬🇾
