Kawall Primary School is now an elementary school . This school was originally named Perpetua Kawall Canadian Mission School, then it became Kawall Government School and now its current name. It used to have a secondary Programme up to Form 3. Two examinations used to be written in Form 2(Preliminary Cert Exam and Gardening Cert. Exam). In Form 3 College Of Preceptors Examination from London was written and if one passed it was admitted to Patentia Secondary. Also Common Entrance now called Secondary Schools Exam is still written in Grade 6 or Standard 4 as it was called. Cricket was the number one sports then and it won the inter schools championship many times. From an enrollment of over one thousand it is down to under two hundred students because of declining population due to emigration and the opening of Belle West which drained the child bearing population.
A school that produced many great teachers and students. HM J.G.Boodhoo was one of the archietects of setting the high standards that continued over the years. Teacher Harrinarine was one of the most effective teachers in Form 3 and produced good results.Teacher Gobin Persaud was also a stalwart in grade 6. There were many others in my time that performed well like Chunilall Soman, Mata Persaud, Azwim and Farouk Baksh, Gulshan and Hafeeza Baksh, Deomattie Deonarine, Mrs Hing,Doreen Mangal,Mohan, Cyril Persaud, Liloutie and Kowsilla Jaggernauth, Dhanram Shankar, Leila, etc. I should also mention that I also taught there and left in 1985 and in my stint in the Common Entrance class achieved 99 percent passes in the three years I was in charge.
A school with a good reputation. It is hard to keep up now especially with a small population and lack of a proper playground. That ground used to be the best but it is now unfit for walking. Needs to be rebuilt from scratch.
