I have not been to Charity since I was 12 years old. My father was the pastor of the Wesleyan Church and we had a very congregation in which all the peoples (Chinese, Portuguese, Amerindians, East Indians and Africans) of Guyana were represented. Charity was much smaller and the time in 1961. Charity had a post office, police station, dispensary, a few dry goods stores, a primary school and Roman Catholic Church. Monday was market day and it was very busy down at the stelling (wharf).
