Un tesoro de la ciudad, exhibe piezas arqueológicas de la cultura maya del parque arqueologico Takalik Abaj - El Asintal, fue alguna vez la casa de gobernación, también cuenta con fotografÃas muy antiguas de la ciudad de Retalhuleu, una estación obligada para quienes buscan historia.

If you're in the pretty town square of Retalhuleu, this small museum is certainly worth the 15 minutes it takes to see it. The museum has a well-organized set of Mayan artifacts coming mostly from sites in the local region. Posters and a brochure provide useful background information. One interesting twist is a small "kitchen" showing Mayan cooking items with their 19th and 20th century counterparts. Rooms on the second floor cover modern local history, while offering nice views of the church and square. The entry fee is 15 Quetzales. Photographs are permitted.
