Semuc Champey itself is absolutely incredible! I have been to 35 countries and as far as natural beauty, is one of the most amazing things I have seen in my life. I enjoyed my time here. Highlights include tubing down the river below Semuc Champey, swimming under the waterfalls and, of course, swimming in SC. The hike up to the viewpoint might be hard for some people, so bring a lot of water! The tour guide was pretty good too. Not amazing but not bad either.

However, there is ONE DOWNSIDE to this experience:
Most people will use Lanquín as a base to further explore Semuc. The issue is the transportation between Lanquín and Semuc (about 8 to 10 km) is horrendous, the worst I have seen in all of my travels. It is dangerous, unethical and disrespectful to all of the paying customers and locals alike to pack them in, like cows, into the back of a pick up truck (everyone standing). The metal bars will hurt your back if you are pressed against the sides as this is a bumpy ride. Any way, from Semuc back to Lanquín I counted THIRTY-THREE people in the back of the truck, many hanging on for dear life, including a child hanging OUTSIDE THE TRUCK. That is what pissed me off the most, the poor kid! How is this ethical in any way or acceptable? It is my hope to bring this to the attention of more people so something can be done about this. Please develop better transportation that is (more) respectable to everyone involved.

IF you decided to go to Semuc Champey, totally do it BUT verify with the tour guide or whoever you are talking to that you will not need to use a pick up truck (they WILL be over crowded) as considering the roads, they are dangerous the way they are being used.Demand better transit between the town and Semuc and if they cannot give it to you, walk, find someone else who can.

Breath taking place! A treasure of nature hidden in the forest, awaiting for the brave ones who can make it there (long bus drives).
Our reccomendation is not to take any tour, just arrive early morning go to the mirador to catch a view from the top of the pools and then walk down to jump in the crystal clear waters!

Great spot! It was in even better visiting it with a guide, he showed places where you can jump off the waterfall, see underwater caves. Amazing experience!

Awesome place! Would definitely recommend taking a tour through the caves. You go in with just candles and half walk half swim through. Afterwards you can use a huge swing into the river and tube down a couple of kilometres. Also, the guide pointed us to the minecaves in semuc, where just your head fits in. Definitely a unique experience.

Amazing, amazing, amazing! This place is a little bit hard to get to from pretty much anywhere in Guatemala, but so worth it for those that make the effort. I recommend staying actually in the village of some of Semuc Champey (at Greengos for example) and NOT in the neighboring town of Lanquin. That way if you do the cafe and pool tour (which I HIGHLY recommend) you get to the caves before anybody else does. What an unbelievable gem in the middle of the country!

A HOT TIP: if you're going down to Antigua and haven't done Rio Dulce, or if your heading up to Flores and haven't done Rio Dulce then consider make the trip a little easier by making it a stopover. It's totally worth it and you can stay in the lake, for example at at Casa Perico if you go there!

No one can say a bad word about this place, it literally is as amazing as it looks in the pictures.

I arrived at midday and it wasn't packed at all, plenty of space to swim or sit on the side.

The views were amazing and there was no need for a tour at all.

Didn't even take that many pictures due to the amount of fun I had IN the water.

DON'T TAKE TOUR (in case you want help local guys who learnt English)
It's easy to do everything alone, find and enjoy.
Amazing bird view from view point.
Spectacular natural pools
+ lockers (take your own to lock your staff)
+ sometimes you can jump to the water
+fascinating waterfall
+jungle
+ total y worth it to spend one day here and two days in way with shuttle plus money I spent

A beautiful spot no doubt, but really just a glorified swimming hole that's difficult and expensive to get to. I did enjoy it, but as a budget traveler i wouldn't have been disappointed to skip it.

Excellent place. Cold super good water. If you go to caves close(out of champey, before the bride) be careful. I had my shoulder dislocated due to a fall. It's very dangerous and they don't even give helmets. Not real hospitals around. Be careful. Besides that excellent place. Don't use sandals, bring tennis or special shoes for wet environment.

This place was breathtaking. However if you are going to go up to the viewpoint, it is not for the faint of heart. The hike up is very difficult. The steps going up made of Rock make it difficult because they are not your standard height. They are steeper. If you're in good cardiovascular health have at it. Once you get to the top, the views are spectacular and worth every step. when you descend into the pool, the water is crystal clear and enjoyable. The water temperature is perfect. It was rainy when we got there and the locals said it had been raining everyday. However, once we climbed up and down it did not rain at all. When we got into the pool , it began to rain, but it didn't matter anymore. Make sure when you travel to Guatemala to book this place. It is one of the most beautiful places ever.
