I booked a Central America Tour during the Holy Week this year with Mayan Gateway. The experience was amazing, I will not hesitate to use them again when I travel to other parts of central America next time.
Josue who constant communicated the detail of the tour with me and tailored it to my needs. And most of the tour within Guatemala was conducted by the guide/driver named Eli, who has rich knowledge of Mayan history and I certainly learnt a lot from him. Travelling to Honduras, El Salvador and Belize was also smooth, they always make sure there is a English speak guide/person with me in case there is any problems.

The trip was off the charts! I couldn't believe how many Mayan temples and structures were there - all within walking distance of each other. It was like walking into a parallel universe - like you were going 2000 years back in time.

Definitely one of the coolest things I've ever done. Mayan Gateway Tours were awesome. Our tour guide spoke amazing english and knew everything about the area and the ruins.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience.

Excellent service for a helicopter tour to El Mirador from Flores. Communication with and payment to company were efficient and easy. We were unable to print paper tickets (which were somehow necessary) so the driver who picked us up at the hotel printed them for us. The equipment and pilot were confidence inspiring. We had a guide who knew El Mirador well and is also an archeologist. It was a great day and well worth the expense. Highly recommend.

Josué and his company, Mayan Gateway, did an absolutely superb job organizing our trip. Everything went very smoothly from start to finish, without a single hitch or glitch. The vehicles were impeccably clean and comfortable, the guides and drivers were wonderful and were in constant contact with Josué to make sure that things went as they were supposed to go. There was also a great willingness to be flexible and accommodating with our schedule. The roads of Guatemala aren't easy, but that's not the fault of the tour agency: Mayan Gateway deserves these 5 stars!

A group of 8 adults made a 5 day, 4 night tour in Guatemala, seeing the main sights in the short time we had. Everything went so smoothly and we could not have been happier with the service including the price, drivers and guides. A thoroughly enjoyable experience.

Choose Mayan Gateway! As backpackers of yesteryear, we were hesitant to have someone help us on our Guatemalan/Belizian adventure. But with teen girls, gone are the days of chicken buses, winging it, determining every detail and safety. Josue put together a fantastic itinerary! All the hotels were great and the drivers were amazing. It was the perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. I don't think I have ever had an easier border crossing, seriously. A big shout out to Selvyn, you were tremendous in dealing with my adventurous off the beaten path family. If you are considering Central America, I would recommend contacting them. Thanks again Josue! When we come back we will definitely call you.

Mayan Gateway was amazing. After many quotes, questions, and recommendations, Josue made us a perfect, customized itinerary for 9 days in Guatemala and 2 days in Belize. All the drivers and tour guides were on time and very good, the hotels were beautiful, and everyone was easy to contact with questions or concerns (Josue always responded to our texts within 5 minutes). I would highly recommend Mayan Gateway for planning your entire Central America trip!

The trip to Guatemala was amazing. This was the first time we used a company to guide us for our whole trip and Mayan Gateway created a perfect itinerary from start to finish with literally no worries. The one worry I did have, which was my fault, was forgetting my backpack that included my computer, but Mayan Gateway got it back for me!!! Also, the places we went that they suggested were so beautiful and interesting that we want to go back. It was the right amount of exploring and relaxing. Couldn’t have asked for a better experience. Thank you Mayan Gateway!!!

Josue at Mayan Gateway gave us the perfect holiday in Guatemala. We spent 16 days going to the major tourist sites. Josue put together a package that incorporated his knowledge and what suited us. The attention to detail and level of care is second to none. The hotels were great, the guides were all fluent in English and knowledgeable. Best of all our driver Ivan, was the perfect person to accompany us along the way.
We will return home recommending Mayan Gateway to anyone interested heading this way. The people of Guatemala are friendly and the country has so much to offer.

It's been about six years since my friend and I were in Xela, Guatemala studying Spanish. I still think of the trip that Josue from Mayan Gateway planned for us. We wanted to take the last week of our time to see a bit more of the country but didn't know where to go, and had just missed the deadline to register for a group trip. We met Josue and he said he could plan a trip for the two of us. The trip was a dream. I confess, when we boarded the bus with some hand-written vouchers that were printed off his computer, we were a little hesitant about how things were going to unfold and if it was legit. Everything was lined up just as he had told us it would be, and it flowed beautifully. The people he works with and the places we stayed were all wonderful. The guides were knowledgable, making the most of historical sites like Tikal. The experiences were richer for us because it was so personalized and intimate. We got to watch the sunrise from a pyramid at Tikal, and even got to go inside of one of the pyramids because the guide knew the workers. At Semuc Champey it was just my friend, myself, and our guide. It was also very reasonably priced. I highly, highly recommend Josue as a travel agent if you want to have a stress- free, memorable, magical experience :-)
    Thanks Josue!

My adult daughter and I spent 9 days on a Mayan Gateway tour in July, and had an unforgettable experience. As noted in other reviews, Josue is great to work with and helped us plan a perfect itinerary, tailored to our interests. We started in Antigua, visited indigenous villages at Lake Atitlan and ended in Peten with an incredible visit to Tikal. All our guides and drivers were personable, knowledgeable and very prompt. ( A shout out to Eli and Julio for great tours!) Their enthusiasm for the things they were showing us was obvious. I signed up for this tour solely on the basis of the description on the web site and reviews that I read and am happy to say, hotels, tours and everything else lived up to what was promised. Josue stayed in close communication with us, answering questions and providing information throughout the reservation process and the trip, making sure that all went well.

These guys were awesome from beginning to end. They worked with us to plan a custom trip to Guatemala that incorporated all the things we were interested in doing (mix of culture and nature). They are super responsive and knowledgeable. When we landed in Guatemala, we were definitely in good hands. All our guides and drivers were great. They were also flexible when we wanted to change our plans a bit and helped us make the best of the whole trip. Really great team! Would definitely use them again!

Thanks to Mayan Gateway I just spent a wonderful three weeks in Guatemala and Honduras visiting Maya sites and touring the Guatemalan countryside. In the weeks preceding the trip Josue and Jacki at Mayan Gateway patiently worked to organize my itinerary according to my ever changing interests and requirements. As I toured Guatemala and yet again made new travel decisions Josue readily accommodated my changes so that the entire trip proceeded without hitch or confusion. Josue remained in contact with me by email and phone throughout the trip to insure that everything was running smoothly. And when I lost my wallet, he even saw to it that I had cash until the wallet was recovered. Usually when I travel I arrange everything on my own, basing myself in various cities and taking day tours booked through Viator or other such agencies. Those tours are expensive, consume inordinate travel and meeting time, and involve large groups as well as occasional untrained and disinterested guides. The Mayan Gateway experience was different. I saved time and money and avoided the confusion and irritation that always accompanies large group tours. I had my own drivers and guides who were friendly, enthusiastic, knowledgeable, spoke fluent English, and willing to take me where I wanted to go and show me what I wanted to see. My thanks to my drivers Manuel Mazariegos and Gilberto Calderon. Manuel, especially, went out of his way to help me locate my lost wallet and find a camera store when I had to replace my camera. My appreciation also to my excellent guides-Luis Diego Lee (Guatemala City & Antigua), Pablo Najarro (Tikal & Yaxha), and Douglas Ramos and Saul Molina (Copan and Quirigua). Through them I was able to immerse myself in Maya and Guatemalan culture, past and present, and, by means of our many conversations I got a glimpse of what it is like to live in their country. For anyone desiring to travel in Central America I recommend Mayan Gateway unconditionally.

We have just returned from our trip to Guatemala and Belize and I can say this was the best tour experience we have ever had. Mayan Gateway was flawless and incredibly customized to our liking. This included to beautiful charm of the local Maya people, the rich history of the region, the wonderful food and the adventure of some fun hikes up to a volcano!
The key is you have to ask for Eli. We did not worry about anything. He was professional and very thoughtful in a way that made our experience educational, relaxing and simply fun. He had a unique way of adding in his own special information and touches to each location. We could not ask for a better vacation and a better experience. He even offered to help out in any way he could in case we ran into issues in Tikal or Belize. We are grateful to Mayan Gateway and Eli for making Meso America a place we will always cherish. We will certainly be return clients to you!

On Feb 2017 we traveled to Guatemala with Mayan Gateway.
Jackie worked with us for a week to tailor a program according to our interests, traveling style and budget. The program was packed with tours and activities (exactly as we asked) and stayed within the budget.

All details during organization and planning were taken care. Mayan Gateway team was replying promptly on every our request. As a result, trip went very well: everybody was in time, events run very smoothly.

Thank you for Jackie who created itinerary, Josue for providing support and greeting us in person in Xela, tour guides Diego, Hyan, Eli, drivers Henry and Selvyn.

Very special thanks to Eli for his expertise and deep knowledge of Guatemala history, Mayan culture and charismatic personality. Our visit to chocolate café was great highlight of the tour. During city tour at Xela he stayed with us much longer than scheduled.
Hopefully he saw how much we were interested. I even started to write down notes after him that happened only with the best tour guides.

Also next day while returning from hike I asked to buy fresh cheese. Eli stopped at local market where I saw some very nice female clothing. I was concerned that am taking Eli and Henry's time. Eli convinced me that he has time and helped in negotiation. I was very happy and appreciative.

Also we appreciate Henry for always coming in time and providing very safe, professional driving. Henry spent with us more time than other drivers, so we developed very special connection with him.

Warm thanks to all people who helped us organizing the trip. Everybody put extra miles to make us happy.
We highly recommend Mayan Gateway for perspective travelers.

A few observations: Antigua- UNESCO Heritage Site, a charming town with beautiful nature around. We spent 2 days there, if planning now- would stay longer.
Also I found great that Antigua was last destination; it created great culmination of the trip.
