My homestay and school experience were great! My room was clean and safe, the food was different almost every day with a good amount of local cuisine and the family was welcoming and helpful. Two other things stand out for me: 1) My teacher was amazing - adjusted the classes to meet my needs and was very patient; 2) Marleni was extremely kind and quick to respond to any questions I had. She also went out of her way to arrange transportation for me after my time at the school Thanks so much for all your help!

Good Spanish school with a nice atmosphere and friendly, helpful teachers. I had a very enjoyable time staying there and the highlight was definitely Ana's cooking! Overall, a very nice experience.

I attended Ixchel for three weeks and the experience was wonderful. I would recommend Ixchel to anyone wanting to learn Spanish, the Guatemalan Culture, and stay in a wonderful historic city like Antigua. I will be returning soon

I had a great time at this school! Jasmine was an amazing teacher and I learned so much even in just one week. She asked how I preferred to learn (conversational or grammar focussed) which I appreciated and catered the lessons accordingly. Highly recommend! :)

I studied at Ixchel for 2 weeks in January and I really loved my experience. I learned Spanish in a very relax environment at the school and my teacher Hayil was very good and knowledgeable. I also stayed in a family and I recommend that as it's a great opportunity to practice your Spanish and learned about Guatemala. As for the room, it was very nice and the food they served us delicious.
Antigua is also a really beautiful city, very well preserved. Don't miss the chance to climb the volcano Acatenango where you can observe the active volcan del fuego, one of the highlight of my trip in Guatemala.

I studied Spanish here for 6 days in January 2018. My instructor, the school facilities, outside activities, and the homestay were all high quality & good value.

My instructor was able to quickly & accurately assess my level, then design a course plan with realistic objectives. My lessons were all very enjoyable (especially on the terrace!) & effective. 4 hours per day (including a 30 minute pause in the middle) was about right for me, with afternoons to practice & explore near Antigua. On a couple of afternoons my instructor was able to meet me for a drink after work, yay extra practice & on our last day at my request we spent about an hour touring the San francisco church & cloister, the perfect tour in Spanish, right at my level. So make sure to voice any requests you have, they will try to accommodate.

The afternoon hike up pacaya volcano organized through the school was a prefect city brake, bring a windbreaker..

My homestay was also fine, although not as traditional as I had imagined beforehand. There were several students staying in simple, clean rooms, with all meals shared together with the senora of the house & for one lunch, with her grown children.
We weren't really embedded with a family in the way I imagined, but it was safe, friendly, comfortable & fun to meet other students, good food, no stress.

Overall I really enjoyed all parts of my study at Ixchel, would recommend it to friends & hope to return sometime!

Big thanks to Marleni, Neri & Heydee for making this experience great for me!

I had a good experience with this school and I stayed there for 11 days. In particular, I had a great teacher named Hayil Quiroz Morales. She was just the right teacher for me and I got the instructor I had outlined to the school before I attended. Over all definitivamente lo mejor para mi :)

I came to Antigua to brush up on medical Spanish for my job back in the United States. I have been here for 2 weeks of my 6 week program of study, and it is clear that choosing Ixchel was the right choice. I could not have asked for a more fantastic teacher. Not only is Maria knowledgeable and skilled at guiding her students through the often times arduous process of learning a new language, she is quick to offer a smile and a good natured joke as we stumble through our Spanish.

I had an absolutely amazing time studying at Ixchel this week. Gaby was an absolutely fantastic teacher and friend, and just after a single week I am so much more comfortable with my Spanish. The school was extremely flexible and helpful for whatever I needed. Would 100% studying here:)

I studied for a week in July 2017 at the school. I had a great experience. I learned more Spanish while practicing in the school and around Antigua. My teacher provided practical lessons that were fun and educational. I also took a couple day trips with teachers to see Guatemala and continue practicing Spanish.

Ixchel Spanish School offers a very interesting language experience for students of all ages. I am a Spanish teacher at an International School and I decided to take 13 of my students to Antigua Guatemala. My students had tutoring at Ixchel Spanish School 4 hours each day and the school also organised an interesting program of activities and visits to places of interest in Guatemala. Everyone involved with our trip and the lessons worked very efficiently to make this a wonderful experience for our students. We are planning to go back next year and I strongly recommend the Ixchel Spanish School to both individual students and teachers wishing to take a group of students.

I really enjoyed my time at the Ixchel Spanish School. All of the staff and organizers were very helpful and responsive. From the time before booking the trip and asking a million questions, to assisting with pick up and drop off at the airport, to making arrangements for afternoon excursions were all great. The actual lessons were terrific, the one on one instruction was super. I would recommend it to anyone interested in expanding their knowledge of Spanish. Antigua was a charming town, friendly people, reasonable prices. Cheap even if you visit the locals hangouts. We also visited Tikal, which everyone should do as well.

Great school in a great location. Tons of things to do, the school organizes a great variety of trips and activities. Patient and understanding teachers who have clearly been doing this for years, and all the staff are very happy to answer questions. Would for sure return if I had the chance!

I went to the Ixchel Spanish School for a class while in Guatemala. I had no idea what to expect on my first day, but my experience exceeded all expectations. The 2 on 1 student to teacher ratio was amazing because the teacher could cater to my needs. My teacher was great and I highly recommend the school to anyone wanting to learn spanish.

I enrolled at Ixchel in beautiful Antigua five years ago when I first began to learn Spanish. The teachers were attentive and knowledgeable. I was able to acquire a solid foundation in grammar, including verb conjugations. Thanks to Skype, I can continue my lessons from my home in Virginia and improve my conversational skills. My online teacher, Luis Carcuz, is super effective -- and super fun to work with. He tailors the class according to my skill level, objectives and interests. Thanks to Luis, I can now actually engage in meaningful conversations in Spanish!
