The very best around all the Lac Izabal. Mike, Marvin and his wife are doing an amazing job. Great place to stay, a nice and cozy dorm upstairs with hamacs and a gorgeous view of the lake. Downstairs, there's a nice little bar where everyday there's more funny people to meet and cheap alcohol to drink. The food they make is incredibly good and also worth the price. The only thing I regret is not to have stayed longer!

Loved this hostel. Everything we were looking for.. an old wooden hut on the water is just a backpackers dream. Owner really friendly and helpful and we hired his kayaks to go and watch the sun rise in the morning. Would of loved to stay here a little longer but our time was limited. Will hopefully be back again at some point. Thanks for having us.

Beds are quite cheap and comfortable enough, mosquito nets work, wifi usually works This is a nice spot and a chill place overall. The food and drinks could cost less than they do but I don't blame them, gotta make money somehow. It's wasn't super dark or quiet in the dorm (which is above the bar) but I slept fine.

My friend and I were very happy about our stay in "the shack". The sleeping room is above the bar, where you can meet old sailor men telling about their journey of life. Even if the dorm is very simple, there was everything we needed and the balcony has a very nice view of the rio dulce and some sailing boats. The hostel is located very close to the Main Street, the big bridge and the ferry station to Livingston and everything else. The trucks rushing through this Main Street can be very loud but it didn't bother us at all.
The owner is very friendly and helpful with any kind of questions.
We would really recommend "the shack" if you are looking for a cheap and not very crowded place to stay (7 beds).

The Shack was our home for more than one month and it was amazing. Marvin & Janet was like our mom & dad! they were amazing and helped us so much. Mike saved our life more than once. We enjoyed from the best hostel and from the best bar-restaurant in Rio Dulce! (also thanks to Anna the chef!) The Shack have the best **vegan burger!** We highly recommend!!!

Walked in with no room reserved and in a pinch..Marvin the owner hooked it up with drinks and a great waterfront room for a killer price. Got some good swimming done in the river from the room..would highly recommend the place. Going back tomorrow! Saludos de Atitlan-- Miguel!

Beautiful "homey" pub with great atmosphere and fun people that's located right on the river. It has small dormitory on the second floor for a very good price. Be sure to check out open mic night on Fridays!

Hidden gem, The Shack had the best buffalo wings in a place where chicken is king. They were crunchy outside, tasty and moist inside. Marvin, the owner was a great host and the location.OMG the location on the river's edge is awesome. Great views to go along with friendly service and great food. A must try while in Rio Dulce.

Best Buffalo wings in Rio Dulce ! Actually the best we've had in Guatemala. Marvin the owner will personally come to the table and make sure you are well served. We come here often.
