  Kensie is a phenomenal host! She and her family will go the extra mile to make sure you are well-fed and taken care of. The establishment is modest but cozy, and extremely affordable. You know that the money you spend there is truly going to support her family and the children's education. This restaurant and guesthouse is a dream realized for Kensie. She is a fabulous cook and a great storyteller. Even though San Jose is a bit out of the way from Flores, it is worth the extra 8 quetzals ($1USD) to ride out there and stay on the lake. (They have the most beautiful view of the lake!) She will hook you up with a great tour company too if you want to visit Tikal, but know that you can NOT do a sunrise or sunset tour, because the colectivo (mini-bus) does not run that late. Don't worry, you won't miss anything. Tikal is breathtaking at any hour.
  
  From the border, walk past the overbearing bus drivers and seek a mini-bus/colectivo (think 15 person creeper van) that will take you to Flores for 30 quetzals. Can't find it? Keep walking, over the bridge, they will find you. Tourists stick out in this area. The mini-bus will take you to a bus terminal where you switch to a new Colectivo bound for San Jose and San Andres. Tell the conductor you are going to Case de Kensie, it's one of the last stops. They will know where it is and tell you when to get off.
  
  On the Colectivos, they are the only way to travel in the rural areas, and they are completely safe. As a young woman traveling, I have no concerns with them. Don't bring a hard-sided suitcase if you can help it because there is no room for it in the vehicle. While there might be 16 real seats in the van, they packed 29 in there when we were visiting, between the adults and children. GET THERE EARLY! If they tell you the bus leaves in an hour, don't mosy around looking at the market in the terminal. Get your seat! Or you'll enjoy the hour ride squished on someone's lap holding someone's baby. But regardless of where you sit, the journey is an adventure. DO IT.
