As soon as the ferry is full it is ferried to the other side. There’s many lanchas if you want to cross faster, and it even works if you’re on a bike/moto. Loads of food stalls with freshly kneaded tortillas.

It goes pretty slow so you need to be lucky not to spend there much time. Cant understand why they dont built a bridge over the river, but yeah that 's Guatemala.

Interesting ferry crossing. It seems inexplicable the fact that a bridge hasn't been built yet to end long queues and long waits in this essential part of the main road to petén.
Talking to locals, authorities simply don't want it built as it would enable protesters to organize blockades in the hypothetical bridge and give them extra headaches

This is a fascinating ferry crossing. The ferry had several pods attached to strategic spots around the hull. There was a pilot in each pod operating a strong outboard motor.
The ferry was large enough for several trucks and a number of vehicles.
I saw some longboats along the shore which reminded me of motorized canoes like the kind seen on tropical waterways.
There was a short wait before we could drive onto the ferry but the wait was part of the experience of seeing fantastic people in an unspoiled country.
