If you are claustrophobic this is NOT the market for you.

Not worth going out of your way for unless you want something specific you know they have here.

I loved all the different cultural foods and items. I will go there again twice a week for the rest of my life. Although I did get pick pocketed.

This market feels very touristy, only few of the things on sell here feels artisans authentic.
The border of the market where people sell flowers, food and animals it's quite pittoresc and more interesting. The visit to chichicastenango was anyway worth. We got to see some Mayan ritual at the cemetery.

Amazing selection of textiles from different Mayan villages in the Western Highlands of Guatemala. Nice way to get glimpse of the Mayan culture

Chichicastenango is a wonderful, cultural experience. It's full of life, culture, color, sounds, and (of course) shopping. While markets with textiles and souvenirs can be found throughout the highland's towns and villages, Chichi is the largest of them all. For its size, however, we were impressed with how relatively calm it was on a late Thursday morning as well as how well-kept the area was. This could have been our good fortune/timing, but it wasn't as chaotic or overwhelming as we would have expected. It's a great place to simply roam and take pictures or to haggle with vendors for a prized position. Warning, there are vendors that will continue to follow you if you show any interest in their product (the ones without a booth). Some people can spend an hour or two checking out the goods while others can half-a-day or more, it depends on your mood and mission for going. Make sure to walk into the Santo Tomás Church built in the mid 1500s.

Wear comfortable walking shoes and clothing (depending on the weather, it could be pretty warm). Be prepared to negotiate but remember that what may be pocket change to you is likely a day's work (or more) to a vendor and their family, so don't stress too much about haggling for the "best" price.

Was underwhelmed by Chichi. You can have a similar market experience in Antigua or any other Guatemalan town. There's no need to make the trek to ChiChi.

Incredible cultural experience if you explore the market deeply and visit the nearby cemetery. Well worth a day trip from Antigua or Lake Atitlan. The views on the drive are beautiful too.

Chichicastenango Market is for no better term a Tourist destination with the main market days Sunday and Thursday.

The Market is huge offering every kind of Guatemalan created crafts. The issue now is that Chichi Market has grown to such a size that in some cases it is hard to find authentic crafts. Much comes from Mexico or China. As the vendor most are honest.

We like visiting the churches and the cemetery.
