The White Tower of Thessaloniki is a monument and museum on the waterfront of the city of Thessaloniki, capital of the region of Macedonia in northern Greece. The present tower replaced an old Byzantine fortification, known to have been mentioned around the 12th century, that the Ottoman Empire reconstructed to fortify the city's harbour sometime after Sultan Murad II captured Thessaloniki in 1430. The tower became a notorious prison and scene of mass executions during the period of Ottoman rule.

The White Tower was substantially remodeled and its exterior was whitewashed after Greece gained control of the city in 1912. It has been adopted as the symbol of the city.

Amazing place, amazing view from the top. Something is always happening around. You can watch a concert of traditional Greek dancers, or various street artists especially in the summer.

Beautiful and historic building on the seafront. Well priced and interesting museum to visit. You can have a guide ot use personal language machines to explain each exhibit.

The White Tower is perhaps the most popular monument of Thessaloniki. A well informed, smartly organized museum can be found inside the tower.

The view at the top of the building is fantastic, espacially during a sunny day. If you are interested about the city's history, it is definitely a must - visit destination.

Ask for an audio guide at the museum's entrance. Enjoy!!

Audio guide was okay but not easy to put on pause to translate to my kids. Also the floor about culture and sport was quite boring. Needed a little bit of fun and wild in the exhibition. Kids loved climbing and the small rooms. Nice authentic atmosphere!

Very interesting and good quality of registered vocal guide. Nevertheless all indications are just in Greek language and foreign visitors cannot fully enjoy the experience. Few audio guides available, so you have to share yours. From the top a nice view of the town.

The informative panels are only in Greek. You should get the audio guide if you want to understand the story of the pictures. The audios give really detailed and good information on the history of the city. It's a bit hot inside the tower but the view on top of is worth seeing.

I am originally from Greece and I have been born and raised in Thessaloniki. I visited the White Tower with a group of friends from UK and not only I felt sorry for them as there was no English text at any of the exhibits but i was extremely disappointed as there were almost no exhibits at all! I wish I could leave a detailed comment on the official website but unfortunately, there's no section offered for reviews.
The visitors are rewarded at the top of the tower with an excellent panoramic view of the city which is ideal for memorable photos.
It is a shame a city full of history like Thessaloniki to be limited to boring posters and tiny projections on the wall that have little to offer in terms of educating or engaging the tourists of the city as well as the visitors of the tower.

In addition to the Tower, recommending the boat tour at night. Starts next to the White Tower.

The antique meets urban right next to the sea. An amazing view from the tower and an astonishing historical heritage.

First of all as a student you will get free entry to the tower. Every floor of the tower has an exhibition about the history of Thessaloniki and the White Tower. So if you are interested in History it is definitely a look worth. The view that you will get from the viewing platform is just great. You can see the whole city (e.g. the history district Kastra or the port).

Interesting historical building but don't come expecting to be amazed. It's pretty basic, but if you're already in Thessaloniki then it's one of the must-do attractions.
