  Ιδρύθηκε στις αρχές του 11ου αι., αρχικά στη θέση Παλαιομονάστηρο. Πυρπολήθηκε τον 13ο αι. και στη συνέχεια τέθηκε υπό την προστασία των Σέρβων Βασιλέων. Από τον 14o αι. ονομάζεται σε έγγραφα Μονή των Ρώσων. Τον 17ο αι. περιέπεσε σε παρακμή. Το σημερινό μοναστήρι χτίστηκε το 1765. Το οκτάτρουλο καθολικό του μοναστηριού, αφιερωμένο στον Άγιο Παντελεήμονα, χτίστηκε στα χρόνια 1812-21. Το τέμπλο είναι ρωσικής τέχνης. Η τράπεζα χτίστηκε το 1892.

  Very nice architecture and a large collection of relics with the largest bell in the world but one of the few monasteries in Mt. Athos that do not even allow taking pics of the exterior.
