Wonderful ancient theater with astounding acoustics. Can see all in an hour or less, but sit in the top rows and enjoy the scenery for a while. Don't try to sing or act like you are an opera star in this theater or the official curmudgeon will scold you soundly. We listened to a very good tenor who sang for about 5 minutes before he was told to stop. We stopped in the gift shop but were ignored by the staff so we did not purchase anything.
You see photos and it look great, but the experience of standing in the ancient amphitheatre is mind-blowing. Awe-inspiring. The acoustics are truly fantastic. The archaeological site is also fantastic.
Very interesting site, not only featuring the theater (fantastic acoustic) but also the remains of an city centered around one of the first "hospital" and all attributes of a former thermal center. It also has a Tholos similar to the one of Delphi. Also here they allow themselves to "reconstruct" buildings while filling gaps with new pieces, which helps seeing things as they were.
liked the place and setting , monument itself is quite well preserved ( compared to other places ). Although staff at ticket office could be a bit more attentive and also would have liked an option for a guide, or even a voice guide . And atleast a pamphlet showing map of the place and few more details. Even the ticket was nothing exciting just a plain white paper. Considering they charged 12 euro per person.
Go early to beat the heat and the crowds. It is an awesome place to visit. Be sure to drink some of the tap waterit's restorative!
The history is breathtaking. However the people which act like they own it are disrespectful. The only thing they care about is the money and bonuses they get.
They charged my Mother full price and when I tried to correct them, they wouldn't even consider that they had made a mistake. And of course didn't return half the ticket price.
It is a shame for such people being representatives of our culture and our heritage.
I am Greek and proud of it but totally ashamed of these types of people who have such positions.
They don't understand that they represent a whole country and that they should be more responsible and careful.
I wish I could do something to correct this type of representation.
Big and beautiful ancient theatre. Acoustics are superb (try speaking or singing from centre stage!). Regular shows of ancient Greek tragedies and comedies still take place here in the summer months, with English subtitles. Definitely worth a visit!
Such an amazing site! We visited this today and remained in awe and amazement of this marvelous archaeological site. Defiantly worth your visit! Be prepared with endless supply of water, sunglasses, sun lotion and of course a head gear. Enjoy 😀
The most beautiful ancien theater of Grace, and maybe even in the world. Better to go early in the morning, as tour coaches arrives between 9 and 10. Small museum, not fantastic, but very interesting sanctuary where medical science begins.
Beautiful and impressive place! I only wish the explanations of the history and context were better - they are written by experts for experts but not for an interested layman.
Greek for lovers.
Upon a good bicycle tour we hit that place in April 2012.
Epidaurus Theatre is known for the excellent sound and sound effectd
Recommended for real Greek lovers.
Worse to go!
This is a must see. When we reached there, it was already closed, and our hotel was 45 minutes away but we came back the next day to visit it. I was so pleased we did. One if the most preserved Old theatres. Definitely worth a visit.
Try to avoid the busy hours, if possible, to fully enjoy and absorb the sacred energy of the place, with the least amount of distraction.
