  The legend has it that, while Saint Atanasie was building the Great Lavra, he was struggling to make ends meet. For this reason he ventured out towards Kareia, seeking aid for finishing the monastery. On his way, desperately thinking of how he would have to leave the mountain if he cannot continue building, our Holy Mother Mary appeared before him and asked him to not worry. Saint Atanasie, not believing his eyes, asked the Virgin Mary to prove she is real. She took her staff and stroke at a rock, splitting it in four, under the sign of a cross. From that rock springs the Holy Water Spring of Saint Atanasie.

  ΣΤΟ ΣΗΜΕΙΟ ΑΥΤΟ ΚΤΥΠΗΣΕ ΜΕ ΤΟ ΡΑΒΔΙ ΤΟΥ Ο ΑΓΙΟΣ ΑΘΑΝΑΣΙΟΣ ΚΑΘ ΥΠΟΔΕΙΞΗ ΤΗΣ ΠΑΝΑΓΙΑΣ ΜΑΣ ΚΑΙ ΑΝΑΒΛΗΣΕ ΝΕΡΟ

  Ηρεμία κελαιδισμα πουλιών και νερό πολύ νερό! ! ( φαίνεται το σχισιμο του βράχου σε σχήμα σταυρού που προήλθε από την ραβδο του Αγ Αθανασίου κτητορος της Μονής Μέγιστης Λαυρας! ! ) 8 χιλιόμετρα από την Μονή Μεγιστη Λαυρα βρίσκεται τό Αγίασμα τού Οσιου Αθανασίου! ! ! !
