John William Waterhouse Miranda-The Tempest 1916
Inspired by the Pre-Raphaelite brotherhood, Waterhouse usually depicts female figures derived from Greek mythology, the Arthurian legend and Shakespeare's plays. In this painting, Miranda, from what is considered as Shakespeare's last play, is watching a shipwreck caused by her father, the sorcerer Prospero.
