On the plus side the very small museum at the entrance is interesting and the admission fee to the pool is only a few dalasi.
On the negative side the small crocodile pool is a stagnant, smelly, slime filled hole. The crocs seem unusually docile and are coloured slime green. There is no way this pool is used for “healing or fertility rituals” The Crocs might be docile but that water would definitely do you some serious harm.
Good guide of the crocs and you can see the crocs from very close and you can even touch them.
This is an amazing place to visit... very friendly and well informed staff... well and very friendly crocodiles...
Great place to see crocodiles face to face. Crocs are well fed, calm and safe to watch and even touch.
This place is believed to be a sacred place by the locals who come and use the crocodile pool water to bath for fertility purposes ,our guide explained to us that the place was founded by the Bojang family in bakou 500 hundred years ago ,and that all sorts of people at different work appointed places come there to seek blessings, all in all it was a vary interesting tour ,or and we saw great big trees too ,the only down side was we couldn't go to the lower side of the pool because the crocodiles have new babies and are a bit aggressive because of motherly instincts which we were all happy to respect..
Not advisable to go on your own take taxi. The guides are friendly you pay 250 dalasi each. Plus they expect tip. The pool is not big you get to touch crocodile's the whole experience last half an hour.
It's in a very poor area with open sewers leading to park.
Had to walk past 2 fighting crocodiles to see CHARLIE
Well worth the bike ride there was a while back tho
The place is well organized and protected by the local community men in that area daily, monthly and yearly.
Kachikally Pool cool and friendly staff.
Stupid cheap.. i think it costed about 75p for two people plus a guide and driver. You can't ask for more than this. Really cool museum too!
THE BEST PLACE TO VISIT WHILE IN GAMBIA
The only place to touch real life crocodiles. Kachikally has about 300 plus crocks and the area as been in existence for over 300 years. The natives belief in the healing powers of the pool as women who are barren go their to pray. This site also has a museum, depicting the history of Bakau and the Gambian cultures.
IT WAS ...AWSOME!!!🐊
I visited the crocodile pool 21 years ago now and it's an experience I'll never forget. It was way before it was a tourist attraction. I had a tour of the pool with Charlie the crocodile and even had a picture taken with him! The locals used to throw in hundreds of raw chickens every day to appease the Croc's!
It was a wonderful experience that I very much doubt I'd dare repeat now!
We were also taken to a near by Sacred Tree where rituals were carried out.
I am sure there is more safety now but I would add it to anyone's Bucket List.
I really enjoyed visiting Kachikally Museum and Crocodile Pool, I was pleased to hear that the Crocodiles were well feed, which made them lazy and tired, except for one. I kept my distance from that one.
Great place to get to see crodiles up and very close to you, charlie is the best.
Very obvious that they are all drugged up as you can practically sit on them for photos- I would prefer to see them in there natural state (from a safe distance). Wont be going back.
