It is a very small but unique institution where lecturers are committed to their work and are always ready to attend to the multifarious academic needs of their students. The system is also free and fair, dedicated to the pursuit of truth and wisdom, amongst other things. I had one of my best experiences here, thanks to the gentle motto "Spiritus Veritatis" which is very emblematic of the principles and mission of the institution.

Spiritan University College started as an Institute of philosophy to give the first stage of priestly and missionary formation uniquely to candidates of the Congregation of the Holy Spirit. It was opened on 17th December, 1990 and the foundation stone was laid by Very Rev. Fr. Pierre Haas, C.S.Sp blessed by the Most Rev. Peter Kwasi Sarpong.
In 1997, an initial two year programme was broadened to cover three years leading to the award of a Diploma in Philosophy and Religious Studies. In 2002, the proprietors decided to raise the academic standard to enable graduates to meet the intellectual challenges of the society of the day. Added to this, the proprietors saw the need to bring the benefits of Catholic and Spiritan education to the youth of Ghana and Africa by opening the doors of the College to the wider public.
The College was accredited by the National Accreditation Board on 25th September, 2005. On 15th May, 2008, the College signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) to offer Bachelors degree in Philosophy and Social Sciences. On June 20th 2008, the University college status was inaugurated.
The College held its first Matriculation ceremony with KNUST on Thursday, November 2008 and the second on Thursday, 29th November 2009. Fifty-two new students took their matriculation oath for the 2010/11 academic year on Thursday 7th October 2010.
The National Accreditation Board granted the College Institutional Re-accreditation on 1st September 2008 for five years, and approved the request for re-accreditation of the existing programme (BA Philosophy and Social Sciences) and two new programmes namely, BA Sociology and Economics; and Diploma in Philsophy and Religious Studies.
The College started a Faculty of Business Studies with the following disciplines in September 2011: Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with the following options: Accounting, Human Resource Management, Marketing, Entrepreneurship and Small Business Management, Banking and Finance and B.Sc. in Economics and Finance, B.Sc. in Finance and Management . These programmes were accreditated by the National Accreditation Board on 1st April 2011 for a period of three years.
The first batch of students of the College graduated on 19th June 2010 with degrees and Diplomas from Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST). The second batch on 18th June 2011, the third on 16th June 2012 and the fourth on 19th June 2013. The first batch of students in the the Sociology and Economics programme graduated on Wednesday 19th June 2013.
The Rector, Rev. Fr. Ato Jackson Donkoh, C.S.Sp. passed away during an operation on 12th December 2012.
In recognition of his distinguished service and in furtherance of his ardent desire to promote the education of female students at the College, and also in recognition of the selfless service rendered to the College by the late Rev. Fr. Ernest Ayittey Akorsou, the Spiritan Provincial Council, in collaboration with the Chancellor, the Bishop of Konongo-Mampong Diocese and the Governing Council of the College at its meeting on 10th January 2013 decided to set up an endowment fund in their memory (herein referred to as “Jackson Donkoh and Ayittey Akorsou Endowment Fund).
We appeal to all well-wishers to make financial contributions to this fund so that their aim of promoting female education at the Spiritan University College would be realized.
