  Named after the first Vice Chancellor, is one of oldest library in Ghana and among biggest in West-Africa and Africa with a lot of scholarly materials.
  The Balme Library consists of 9 departments and 1 special library for the visually and hearing impaired.
  
  1. Acquisitions: The Acquisitions department orders and receives all library materials. Processing of all library materials begins in this department.
  2. Africana Library: he department processes and stores materials from countries on the African continent.
  3. Braille Library: It is a library for the visually and hearing impaired.
  4: Cataloguing: Library materials are processed in this department using the Sierra software from Innovative Interfaces, and sent to the shelves.
  5. Digitisation and Institutional Repository: Deals with the collection, preservation and dissemination of digital copies of the University's intellectual output.
  6: E-Resources: The department deals with the acquisition and management of all types of electronic resources, including government documents, commercial e-books and e-journal packages.
  7. Reference: The Reference department is the first point of call for the user / reader. The library's Special Arabic Collection is part of this department.
  8. Students Reference Library: The department houses textbooks and other relevant materials including pamphlets, chapters of books and photocopied documents which have been recommended by lecturers to be placed on reserve.
  9: Technical Services: The Technical Services Department (TSD) of the Balme Library provides bindery, and other reprographic services for the library and the university community.
  
  United Nations Regional Depository and World Bank Library: It houses materials disseminated through the UN depository program and publications on World Bank activities.

  One of the best places to study and do research. Also a one-stop place for book bindery and photocopy services. Besides the reading areas, there are three commons for undergraduates, postgraduates and faculty. The library also has a 24-hour reading room and a dedicated space for works on Africa. The environment is serene, beautiful and refreshing.

  The balme is an extremely resourceful and conducive place to study. With the digital system it is easy to locate and access reading materials.

  The Balme Library stands as one of the most resourceful buildings inside and outside the University of Ghana.
  Located in the centre of the university, it acts as landmark to the lost, a meeting point for friends, and a knowledge hub for students, professor and all in need of the wisdom hidden within the pages in store.
  The materials found in within the buildings range from archaic to modern, from art to zoology, and everything in between.
  It takes pride in its organisation, its world class standards and protects its treasures with a keen eye.
  Also, for you Pokemon lovers, the library isn't only a digital digital gym but a great place to start the hunt for PokeStops and Wild Pokemen scattered in the area.
