The Commission is the regulatory body for the finance sector in the Bailiwick of Guernsey. It was established more than 25 years ago.
Our primary objective is to regulate and supervise financial services in Guernsey and to help uphold the Bailiwick's international reputation as a finance centre.
The Commission helps to ensure that financial services businesses in the Bailiwick work to established international standards. We were one of the first independent commissions in the world to be responsible for the regulation of a jurisdiction's banking, insurance, fiduciary and investment sectors.
Our work is undertaken to ensure that Guernsey's reputation as an international finance centre is upheld. We strive for the Bailiwick to have the most efficient and effective financial services businesses, ensuring good practice and monitoring and mitigating risk.
We provide guidance and supervision to financial services companies to ensure that they are operating within the legal framework laid down by the States of Guernsey (our Parliament). It is more than a supervisory role though; if the need arises we have the power to impose sanctions and enforce compliance with Guernsey's financial services laws among the businesses we regulate. We require these businesses to be thorough in their knowledge of the clients they deal with to help combat money-laundering and other financial crimes. We act impartially and independently in all of our work and actively communicate with government, as well as international regulatory bodies.
