Picturesque place easy to reach
an excellent vantage point and a sip of history. Near Kutaisi, unfortunately the access is difficult. Marshrootka rarely rides. It is best to go by marshrootka to the Gelati Monastery, and from there take a taxi to Kutaisi via Motsameta. Marshrootka Kutaisi - Gelati costs 2 lari, taxi Gelati - Motsameta - Kutaisi - 12 lari. Do not forget to bargain ;)
Nice view and good atmosphere!
Beautiful place to visit
Beatiful nature, beautiful church
There are several nice locations in Kutaisi and in the area around Kutaisi. One of them is Motsameta. The view, the landscape, wonderful places to make nice pics. More Nature, less noise. Motsameta has more authentic view if compare it for example with Gelati. There is a possibility to reach this location by minibus, or you simply can walk to Motsameta from the city centre.
Absolutely worth to be visiting. Absolutely worth to spend a couple of hours. And of course the possibility to continue the trip from Motsameta to Gelati.
Одна из красивых мест недалеко от Кутаиси. Можно и пешком добраться из центра города, можно и на микроавтобусе. В любом случае, стоит посетить эту местность.
Medieval Monastery of western Georgia. One of the most scenic views in Georgia
Nice small monastery above the river
Motsameta Monastery is smaller and quieter than the one in Gelati, although its cliff-edge setting is more spectacular by far. It is located 6km out of Kutaisi, off the Gelati road. Take the turning marked by a photo of the church and follow this track for a couple of kilometres. This little monastery has a spectacular setting on a cliff-top promontory above a bend of the Tskhaltsitela River. Situated dizzily high above the ravine of the Tskhaltsitela River, the monastery offers awe-inspiring views of the river and the surrounding countryside from any number of buildings and points on the grounds. Extremely isolated and seldom visited by tourists, this place will give you an unadulterated taste of the monastic life.
They know how to pick a location here. It's beautifully located on the hilltop which great views over the surrounding mountains and river. The inside is not too spectacular but it's still worth checking out if you visit Gelati. I'd walked from Gelati and it's about a 45 minute stroll so you can combine both for a good daytrip.
Very a beautiful place..full of calm and serene surroudingsdeep down u hear the music of water running thru the river..very romanticfell in love with this place
Motsameta monastery is located 6 kilometers from Kutaisi, in a small village Motsameta. The monastery is set on a cliff top above the bend of the Tskaltsitela River. It was built in the 8th century. The name of Motsameta derives from Georgian name '' matryrdom '' and is connected to two brothers David and Konstantine Mkheidzeebi.
Beautiful
It's wonderful place
After you park, you walk toward the monastery on a nice trail. The scenery around is astonishing - definitely worth a visit! The inside of the monastery looks brand new, but beautiful nonetheless.
Less impressive than Gelati but set in a more aesthetically pleasing natural location, this monastery is quite charming. I don't like the newly-repainted (as opposed to restored) frescoes thoughthey look amateurish and, to my mind at least, fail to respect the beauty of the old medieval paintings. A pity!
Worth to see! Small but charming place
