Cathedral on the top of hill, very nice to see around.need to climb
Gremi (Georgian: გრემი) is a 16th-century architectural monument – the royal citadel and the Church of the Archangels – in Kakheti, Georgia.
There is historical museum and nice place to walk
Interesting museum, amazing views, attentive staff
Well worth a visit - such a scenic and interesting historic place!!! Great wineries nearby. Also, try the local mountain honey - very delicious.
Gremi is situated in Kvareli region, at a distance of 150 kilometers from Tbilisi. Built by Levan, King of Kakhetians in the 16th century, it was an important town of Kakheti region in middle ages. In the 15th century Gremi was the residence of Kakheti Royal family. The construction occupies over 50 hectares of space, and is erected on the site, featuring highly contrasting relief. The construction is encircled by the wall with thousands of inbuilt significant facilities, the major of them being Domed Church of Archangel, built in 1565. The frescoes and inscriptions of the church date back to the 16th c. Dwelling tower, belfry, caravanserai, Nakulbakevi, bathhouse, fortress Sameba (Trinity) and other edifices belong to the 16th century as well.
Very well preserved and interesting historical site! It is really worth to see during the Kakhetian trip.
The architectural complex includes the fortification, monastery and kings palace..
outside the fortress there are the ruins of old capital city of Kakhetian kingdom. There you can explore some old churches or chapels, baths and recently built museum with some interesting ancient artifacts..
Amazing location on the hill. Fantastic church and nice palace. But collections are poor and does not deserve the price.
Castle and an ancient church rest on top of a small hill. Nice views of the surroundings. There were original paintings on the wall of the church, despite they really required some renovation works.
museum has only 4 almost empty rooms to visit. The ancient church next to it is worth seeing but has only 1 room. That is it! Not worth driving 2,5 h from Tiblisi
Castle and great church. Beautiful setting with views of the Caucasus Mountains, nearby river, forests and Alan anise valley. A delight. Madloba.
Beautifully restored church and castle complex. Well worth a visit for the architecture and scenery alone. A small donation of 3Gel to climb the castle was worth it.
The monastery has a unique architecture and building materials that makes it easy to distinguish from other churches. Amazing!
One of the most beautiful castles in Georgia. Once the capital of Kakhetian Kingdom, now you can see only the Archangels church and the Kings palace and some ruins in the valley surrounding that, that can give an idea of the size that Gremi city used to have. Entrance free, museum 3 lari
Imitom rom hemi someplace
It's just an Orthodox Church on the hill. Here's no spectacular view and rests of big abandoned city are invisible or unavailable. If you've seen other Georgian churches this one looks similar.
The orthodox church and citadel with unique architecture and history dating from XVI century, located in the Kakheti - Kvareli, eastern Georgia. You will enjoy the trip and the wine :)
