Nice place to stop for 1 hour or so if you are in this area. But I would go there just to see the fortress.

Wow the history of this place is amazing. It has a cool little museum. If your in the area I really recommend visiting. It's right outside of Batumi.

Impressive old "Roman" fort. It is very well preserved and well worth a stop of you are in the area. It is believed that one of the apostles is buried here. It is considered a holy site. This fortification is located not too far from the Turkish border. It is remarkable that the potable water pipes have survived. If you are in the area stop by for a visit. This is a place for a relatively short visit. This is not a place you are going to spend an entire afternoon.

It's quite small, but very old, built in the 1st c AD. Well preserved and maintained. Nice views. Definitely worth an hour's visit when you're staying in the area.

Interesting ancient fortress. It is kept in good condition. You can walk on walls, have a rest in small garden incide, see the archeological work. There is also a pretty small museum building in the middle, which is also beautiful.

There are basically just the walls you see from outside, which are fairly large. But the inside is a bit poor A little museum in the middle makes it interesting enough.

We'll kept fortress with a lot of history and a lot less restrictions in exploring it than you would expect. You can walk the walls, check the digs. Great fun. Plan at most two hours.

A view back into history of roman presence in this region and shows how well organized system they had in the castle ruins. From armory to underground water pipelines and baths. Wonderful place..must visit

Great Roman fortress. Very interactive. You able to reach it by bus "33" from Tbilisi square. Entrance Cost: 3 GEL. Bus: 0.8 GEL

Fortress is just a square wall and signs of the ruins of buildings inside of the yard. It looks much better from outside than inside. Definitely I advice not to take the audioguide. Commentary is exactly the same what's written on the information signs.

Originally built by Romans in 1 century AD it has always been an important strategic fortress used by Romans, Georgians, Turks, and Russians. As the history goes apostle Matthew is buried somewhere on these grounds.
Under the Soviet rule the area was closed for visitors as it's located within proximity to the Turkish border and citrus trees were planted on its territory.
Right now the excavations are under way and you can see nice artifacts of various cultural levels found on the territory of the fortress.
When you go to visit the fortress take your swimming suits as Kvariati, the cleanest beach in Georgia is just minutes awayresponse / report this review
