The Country Cold Store

Before founding the Country Cold Store in October 1969, James D Lewis worked at several business places, including Baillies Bacolet Estate, Westerhall Farm, Genieca and Grenada Beach Hotel. It was at Grenada Beach Hotel his eyes opened to opportunities to become involved in trading.

Mr. and Mrs. Lewis decided to try selling chicken feet since they found there was a great demand for cheap meat in Perdmontemps, where they lived. He soon discovered a reasonable source of this product at a very attractive price. The supplier of this product was delighted to find a market for this item and willingly offered a 27-cubic-feet freezer on a ‘pay later’ plan. Sooner than later their business career was born. The chicken feet soon became insufficient to meet the demands of customers, and as a result they decided to purchase chicken backs to complement the chicken feet. This product was procured from the Cold Store, a wholesale/retail outlet in the capital St. George's.

Demand grew by leaps and bounds, and therefore they decided to expand by going to junctions and crossroads in the parish of St. David's to promote these items. This did not require much effort as the need for meat was very great.

From then on, there was no looking back. Freezer after freezer was constructed, and an island-wide network of sales resulted. Today, Country Cold Store is a family-owned and operated business serving the whole of Grenada, Carriacou and Petite Martinique. We provide top quality products at reasonable prices, and this has made us the leading importer and distributor of frozen poultry parts, vegetables and other products.
