Smalls for All® is a charity which collects and distributes underwear to help women and children in Africa. We were launched in 2010 by Maria Macnamara, after she volunteered in Ethiopia and read an article about the problems women and children face through having no underwear.
Having no underwear can be a health and hygiene problem for many poor African communities. Maria discovered that many women and children can’t afford underwear or have only one pair of pants. Many teenage girls miss out on valuable days of schooling when they're forced to stay at home every month.
Our underwear has gone to many countries, including Ethiopia, Gambia, Ghana, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, Somalia, South Africa, Tanzania, Uganda, Zambia and Zanzibar. We collect brand new pants, as well as brand new bras and gently worn bras that still have good wear left in them. We help those living in orphanages, slums, IDP (internally displaced persons) camps and schools, as well as those in hospitals suffering from medical conditions like obstetric fistula. We also help to fund the education of children in Africa, and work with local charitable organisations to ensure we provide help in a practical and sustainable way.
