Description

Pete’s Café was a work of hospitality in the tradition of the Catholic Worker movement, and is run by the London Catholic Worker. This work in particular was inspired by our co-founder Peter Maurin, our late friend Peter Lumsdaine and the risky courage of St Peter!

Peter’s Café aimed to be a place where rich and poor, black and white old and young, migrants and locals, people of all faiths and people of no faith, can meet, gather, relax and build a sense of community , mutual aid and common humanity that overcomes the differences that so often separate us.
Open to all who came, we aimed to welcome especially those who feel isolated or rejected, or struggle with life and on a low income, and community and political activist!

We are non profit group that everyone who works here is a volunteer. The CW is a radical Catholic lay movement open to all who share our commitment to hospitality , resistance and community: to social justice, non-violence, a ‘green revolution’: and who seek a living spirituality that can bring about a ‘revolution of the heart’, “changing the world one heart at a time”

Catholic Worker communities are build around ‘the works of mercy’: feeding the hungry, clothing the naked, sheltering the homeless, visiting the sick and those in prison, welcoming the stranger and burying the dead.
We believe in the words of Jesus who said “whenever you do this for the least of these , you do it for me” and our work here is inspired by the Gospel vision where Jesus shared his table with the outcasts and the poor of his day
