This new gym is kitted out with some really cool equipment. I've been using the Westside Barbell system for the last six months because I wasn't happy with the progress my bench was making doing bodybuilding style exercises, but none of the gyms in Brighton had the right sort of accessories - bands, boards, different types of bars and chains. Max-strength has it all and rare hardware for improving legs like a GHD machine and reverse hyper. The guys running the gym are on hand during the classes looking for sticking points and putting together plans to improve weaknesses. It's pretty much personal training for normal gym money.

There's a nice atmosphere and often a mixture of strength trainers like myself and Mums doing core work with kettlebells after dropping the kids off at school working out at the same time. They also run women only sessions.

I've been attending the Hove boot camps for the past five months. Previously I’d tried lots of different things, boxercise, body combat, run club, yoga, or just slaving over a cardio machine at the gym. I always got bored, and de-motivated when I didn’t get the results that I wanted. I enjoy the boot camps as every one is different, and you get that positive encouragement to help you along. The guys know what they are doing, so after a mere 40 minutes I get a much better workout than pounding the machines at the gym for hours and not really knowing what to do! I feel stronger, I have lots more energy and I’m leaner to the tune of almost two dress sizes. The sun always seems to shine on our Saturday morning boot camps, and working out in the open air is lovely, it beats a stuffy gym I tell you!
