  My son took his car into Gates Carlisle, for front tyres was told tyres are wearing incorrectly down to canvas on inside edge (needs wheel alignment adjustment) We have the best equipment here. Purchased the tyres and was told the alignment has been set. 4,000 miles later front tyres are down to the canvas, told again alignment needs setting, purchased more tyres and told alignment set.
  4,000 miles later and inside of tyres are down to canvas back in told again needs alignment purchased more tyres, again told alignment set.
  
  Took to another garage asked them to check Wheel alignment, told that they are set to 6 mm towing out this is why the tyres are wearing the inside edge. Went back to Gates and told them this. They said alignment not covered however we will reset as a gesture of good will.
  
  Now he is told that the steering is seized will have to strip it down bring it in on Friday and leave for the day, arrived on Friday told we are fully booked today unable to do this job today bring it back next week.
  
  Took it back and left it with them, now told top arms have excessive movement and will possibly need two track rod ends ( top arms are only 5 months old) took it back to the garage that replaced the arms, new ones ordered, into the garage to be replaced The garage manager called to say that there is nothing wrong wit top arms checked by three different MOT inspectors, however someone has had heat on the track rod lock nut on the near side and have melted the steering rack boot. I am now fed up with this.
  
  Purchased two track rod end's and new boot kit, then took it to a proper garage to have the boot replaced and track rod end's replaced and tracking set, I was able to watch the entire process, front wheels removed started with near side spanner on the lock nut and removed without any grief, track rod removed without problem lock nut removed damaged boot taken off and discarded. New boot fitted to the rack end and secured with clip lock nut refitted followed by track rod (old one refitted as nothing wrong with it). Moved onto off side same thing no problem in loosening lock nut. Wheels re fitted then onto hard standing for adjustment. This adjustment took about 20 minutes all locked up and road tested Steering wheel bang on Front tow now reset to "0", car drives perfect. took track rod end's back for refund, as not needed. Will not be going back to Gates tyres.

  Visited twice for custom exhaust work after travelling 30+ miles and both times on different cars I've been fobbed off as the guy who does the work is never interested. Last visit I was told "that pipe is too big I don't have any that size and have no idea where to get it" it's 60mm exhaust tubing and a quick search on Google or eBay brings plenty up for less than £20 a metre. Wouldn't give them the satisfaction of buying tyres from them anymore since they can't be arsed to help with exhaust work. Shame there is nowhere who will do custom exhaust work in the area.

  Now this is a place that doesn't just do tyres, everything for your car and truck tyres too. Been in Carlisle and Workington for umpteen years. Very nice people in Reception too

  I've been here a few times to have my tyres changed, MOT and service. They quick and professional and are very reasonably priced. It can get busy on Saturday as appointments are not necessary so it's best to get there early.

  Always absolutely fantastic service from Gates Tyres, came along again today with wheels locked on my Toyota as they wouldn't come off (even with the locking key). Toyota wouldn't even entertain looking at them and told me to drill (steel locking nuts!) off myself. Andrew and the team are great and Theo who I met today for the first time (who got the locking nuts off) is a credit to this already superb local company. Highly recommend.
