Description

Healthy modern fine dining and dressing-up. Putting art and fashion culture into street food.

Dumpling Heart Food Gallery is brain child of Taiwan born, London based fashion designer and avant-garde foodie, Mei-Hui Liu. Dumpling Heart marries epicurean modern gourmet with asian street food culture and the exciting East London art and fashion scene. Art, food and fashion lovers come together to create a delightful, convivial and unforgettable pop-up party dining experience.

Mei-Hui is passionate about healthy modern gourmet food. As a fashion designer and curator she travels widely and never misses a chance to explore and seek out the best tastes and food moments. Since landing in London in the late 90s, Mei-Hui has built a reputation for her ethical fashion label Victim, and is renowned for bringing together the most creative eclectic crowds at her super East London art fashion parties.

HOW IT ALL STARTED
The first pop-up restaurant opened in a secret court yard in Shoreditch London in November 2015. The food gallery pop-up with friends, rapidly evolved into a Taiwanese fashion food night market with over 400 guests. Dumpling Heart later moved to Calvert Avenue where Mei-Hui collaborated with local artists, florists and designers to develop her food and fashion gallery vision.

Dumpling Heart has popped-up at the famous E5 Bake House, The Grocery organic wine shop, Columbia Road Flower Market, the trendy Parisian boutique hotel Le Pigalle, and a stream of private parties. In 2016 Dumpling Heart took up residency at creative space SHED London, offering a lunchtime Bento box menu and evening food gallery supper clubs.

THE MENU
New menus are devised for each pop-up to take account of the season and party theme. Signature dishes include the beautiful Lace Dumplings, made from minced pork from local master butcher Hill & Szrok, or organic tofu from London food artisans Clean Bean. Ginger, garlic, and seasonal vegetables are added, using as much local and organic as possible. Everything is slow cooked with Clearspring Organic Sunflower Oil made in UK, and then for authentic asian tastes the Soya Sauce, Sesame Oil, Rice Vinegar and Chilli Sauce come from Taiwan. The delicious rice (the best in Taiwan), is grown in Mei Hui’s hometown of Cishang, by her family.

THE STYLE
Mei-Hui fuses her quirky fashion style of ethical Victorian English heritage with modern clean minimalism to create a uniquely charming dining experience. Local artists and designers like bespoke florist Yan Skates and porcelain designer Natascha Madeiski bring their creativity into the mix to create a unique dining experience.
