Description

At the National Gallery of the Faroe Islands you can have a unique art experience in scenic settings. The art museum is located in a beautiful park in the center of Tórshavn.

The National Gallery has a permanent exhibition showing the best of Faroese art from the 1830s to the present as well as an area for changing special exhibitions.

In the art museum's arrival area you will find a café and a shop. Here you can enjoy a cup of coffee and read in the museum's catalogues. The store sells a selection of postcards, posters and books. In the arrival area there are also activity-tables where families with children can enjoy recreating the museum's sculptures in micro format, editing the museum's pictures on postcards, drawing, solving puzzles and much more. You do not have to buy a ticket to use the café, shop and workshop - it is free and open to everyone. There is also free WiFi.

The National Gallery is a manageable and quaint size that makes it possible to see the art museum's collection for anything from half an hour to several hours - depending on how much time you have. Most guests spend approximately 45 minutes to an hour in the collection and end their visit with a cup of coffee, tea or soda in the café - often accompanied by a warm muffin.

We recommend that the visit to the art museum is rounded off with a walk outside through the park in the direction of the city center, from which the museum's architecture can be enjoyed. The museum's many black-stained gables are reminiscent of traditional Faroese boathouses.
