Absolutely amazing island. A place so nice it should be in the movies, wait, wait it was. You have to go to this place, i know it is remote and maybe not the most well know place on the earth but this place is my favorite place on earth.
The Horse shoe shape of the island makes it perfect for harboring ships through the storm. There is an old coconut plantation on the eastern side of the island. The island is still home to a few cows and goats.
There is awesome snorkeling all around the island. As well as neighboring islands.response / report this review -

Okay, I went there in the mid-90's, but I can say it was the most magical place I've been on the planet. The wall dives, the drift dives, the bommie dives, a night dive by moonlight with no torches - this place was epic. Day trips to Taveuni and other islands. If you are a serious diver and want to get off the grid and away from damaged reefs and depleted fish stocks, go to Fiji. Go to Matagi. Unforgettable.

What can I say about this private island paradise?
I you wish to experience privacy, luxury, wonderful al-la-carte menu facilities on a private Fijian island with only a few guests to accompany you, then Matangi Island is the place for you.
Access via a small plane (one hour from Nadi International airport), followed by a (complimentary) 40 minute 4WD taxi to a remote beach, where you'll be picked up in the gentle surf by the private speed launch and taken to a place that only movie stars dream about.
Once there, you're greeted and taken to your luxury beach-front Bure with open (private) shower and just a couple of minutes' walk to the restaurant.
Snorkel your way to the coral reef (just metres from your door) or hire a larger boat to take a chartered fishing trip. Maybe opt for a romantic picnic with champagne to a totally secluded private beach where you'll dine, play and relax in complete privacy.
